We're worse defensively without Aina and Murillo. And Aina also helps us attack.

Nonetheless that's a terrible result. And the observations here don't sound encouraging about the performance.

I think it's easier to be optimistic when you don't watch and are far away.

I can still say that I was there for the last win. Someone might need to fund another trip for me.

For the same money we can just send you Ange back, which seems like a much more reliable way to make things better.

You could, but it wasn't much better under Nuno. What was it, 8 points from his last 8 league games last season and 4 from his first 3 this time around? Clearly I'm the lucky charm, irrespective of the manager.

You’re going on Thursday, idiot. He’ll almost certainly still be in place for that.

Back to Hutchinson. He came on for the last 20 minutes, and in that period he:

    • Stole the ball from a Sunderland defender in their own area, giving a chance to Jesus, and then a chance for himself that the keeper did well to save (Could argue he shouldn't have given the keeper a chance with a better finish)
    • Created a chance that Wood should have finished with his right foot
    • Created a chance that Wood should have finished with his head. Best chance of the game for us.

He's in the starting eleven for Newcastle away for me.

In terms of value for money I'm much more down on Kaluemendo, Bakwa and McAtee than I am on Hutchinson so far.

This can’t be true. Russ is always right about players and he’s not convinced about Hutchinson.

[He’s basing his wisdom on our (in)ability to secure a holding midfield player (Sangare failing and Freuler failed). A position, I should point out, which has a market value of c£75-100M, for which City were unable to replace Rodri]

I'm not down on any of the new players as yet. New team and second manager in the tie they have been here with a drastically different way of playing. They've all mostly shown some promise though not consistently. Hutchinson did well when he came on. His crossing was effective and his effort was good. If Wood was on his game he should have had an assist. The one that does worry me is Zinchenko. Not his fault though. I would be happy with him playing in midfield. Anyone who does play left back will be expected to step into midfield but Id rather that person be able to play that defensive role really well as a starter.

Zinchenko is a huge problem for us at the moment. But the other option is Savona in at RB and move Neco over, and I'm not sure that overall it's an improvement as Savona looked a tad dodgy defensively and will offer little going forward

    Savona defence 7 + attack 4 = 11?
    Zinchenko defence 5 + attack 7 = 12?

Though honestly I don't feel strongly about it. I'd be happy to try Savona and Neco and see what happens.

Anyone know Psycho's view on the new players?

  • 28 Sep 2025, 11:21 a.m.

Absolutely spot on, it was odd time to dig out Hutchinson. I can only assume he was half watching but decided to double down. He has to start v Newcastle.

As for the others, it’s still far too early to tell if they will be hit or miss. Different players take different amount of time to settle and find their positions. And it’s all been very disjointed which doesn’t help at all.

I’d seen Jesus written off a few weeks ago.

Like others I’m worried about Zinchenko defensively, but am not sure he was that good going forward either. Many times he seemed to look up and not know what to do with the ball. That might have been to do with no runs being made. Or it might be because he’s new to the side and hasn’t yet learnt who’s doing what and when. Either way, he got a fair bit of stick from the crowd for slowing things down when we needed to step up the urgency towards the end.

It was a poor result yesterday, but we did enough to have won it on another day. Don’t get the instant negativity over Ange. He’s been brought in at a difficult time, with the club on a bad run stretching back to the end of last season, with little opportunity to spend time on the training ground with a bunch of players who have only just met each other. Give him some time FFS.

On Chits Wood, is he out of form or just reverting to his career norm.
