I do know what the rules say and they’re fairly ambiguous. The ref can allow play to continue and later issue a yellow card, or he can halt play, issue a card if he wants, and restart with an indirect free kick.
I can’t tell you why the law is written like that, but it is.

I do, but they're not very helpful. Simulation is considered unsportsmanlike behaviour, which is an offence punishable by a yellow card. When play is stopped to issue a player with a caution, it is restarted with an indirect free kick to the opponent. But what isn't clear is whether play should be stopped to issue the card.

I'm still struggling to see the justification of spending 60M+ on McAtee and Hutchinson.

Zero intensity 1st half. McAtee, Bakwa and Ndoye look worringly lightweight.
Threw everything at them 2nd half but for all that the only big chance created was Wood's header.

Hutchinson put more balls in the box than the rest of the team combined. Maybe you weren’t watching?
