I don't understand everyone the socials losing their shit over Marinakis. He was frustrated, like everyone else connected to Forest, and had a quick vent at a member of his management team. The guy has been a fantastic owner for us so far and showing a little bit of passion isn't something I'm going to knock him for.
What’s the difference? Because with the CL money we buy more expensive players that may or may not work. Then when we don’t qualify the season after we would be fucked under FFP anyway.
It’s not really what I want to see, but I think foreign managers are a bit more relaxed about lunatic owners than we are in this country, so I suspect Nuno will shrug it off. And the handwringing from the usual suspects on Sky is just as embarrassing.
Yep, in his presser Nuno said it was about the misunderstanding between the medical and coaching staffs, presumably referring to the situation with Taiwo. It was a pretty bad fuck up.
And coming straight after the inability to get Morato on in time on Monday, there’s a comms issue there.
Marinakis has just released a statement going big on the achievement of European qualification, praising Nuno and talking of frustration with the ‘misjudgement’ by the physios over Taiwo. Not exactly an apology (and you wouldn’t expect one from him), but definitely an attempt to downplay any issue.
Such an odd feeling walking out today. We're going to play our first European game since Bayern 30 years ago, which is a monumental achievement, and yet some mongs in the Upper Clough booed them off. We look mentally and physically exhausted, but you really can't fault the effort.
Sorry, not buying that, much as Maranakis, his ego and his PR team are trying to rewrite history and portray that.
He took over in 2017 - we had three and a half seasons of dross and half a decent season under Sabri in his first four years.
He didn't get us promoted, SSC (not Maranakis's choice) did, albeit helped by Maranakis's backing in the Jan transfer window.
His interfering and indulgence of Maranakis jr very nearly sent us straight back down - only SSC's magic in managing a hugely dysfunctional changing room stopped that.
He's embarrassed the club repeatedly (that tweet, spitting at the ref, breaking his TV, throwing his lanyard into a front garden and now today).
His appointment and backing of Nuno is the only footballing thing he's got right - and actions like today can only serve to undermine it,
He's done some decent community stuff off-field, which his PR team are very quick to shout about.
But he's also sanctioned a club policy to exploit the fans and extract every last penny out of them. (huge season ticket, membership and matchday ticket prices, converting whole blocks of standard seats into hospitality seating)
Obviously we need help from Spurs or Man U to not lose to Villa, but as long as Villa get no more than 4 points and we win our last two matches, we'll finish 5th.
...and if not that, we may be playing for Europa or conference.
If you had said this time last year that we would be playing for something until the last game, and it wasn't going to be relegation, I would have had you taken out the back and shot.
“Today is a day for celebration, because after thirty years Nottingham Forest is now guaranteed to be competing on the European stage once again, a promise I made to our supporters when we achieved promotion!
With two more games to go in the Premier League, we must keep believing and keep dreaming, right to the final kick in the final game. We are extremely proud and close to Nuno and the team, and we must all celebrate the historic achievements of this season.
Everybody- coaching staff, players, supporters and including myself- we were frustrated around the injury of Taiwo and the medical staff’s misjudgement on Taiwo’s ability to continue the game. This is natural, this is a demonstration of the passion we feel for our Club.
Let’s all be grateful, passionate and keep on dreaming!”
