Look, with Chic having one of his wobbles I'm here to steady the ship. Consider me the 1922 committee of prediction threads. Mate.

It's a bloody ling way to Swansea but we're looking a 3-0 bonza bash to the good guys, and we march on to Wembley. Cobber.

Anyone going to this? Away at Swansea on a Wednesday night in the league cup must be one of the most uninviting games we've had for a few years.

  • 14 Sep 2025, 7:16 p.m.

Still loads of tickets left for it.

Also still tickets for Beris which I'd have thought people from the ballot would've bought by now, so it may well go to season tickets holders at least.

  • 14 Sep 2025, 7:56 p.m.

Thanks. Now I've got to go. Swansea only an hour from me. Tickets purchased.

When you don't get to go very often (because cunts like Ingo buy all the tickets, and you live 3 hours away), you get excited. Daughter's second game, her first was 2-2 vs Blackpool in the FA Cup nearly two years ago. This view is 3 rows in front of where we will be. Woot.

    The Vetch Field

Slightly concerned it might become youngsters. Their youth team might include a young lad by the name Harlan Perry who I taught Physics to until last summer. If he scores the winner I'll be fuming.

Strikes me that it's far from unlikely that Postecoglou will go into his first home game without a win from his first four games (or, worse, with four defeats) and already under a bit of pressure.

Hey, quit it, I do the doom-mongering around here.

(Agreed, I had the same thought)

  • 15 Sep 2025, 11:37 a.m.

If we lose to both Swansea and Burnley then he deserves to be under pressure. Arsenal and Betis are a different kettle of fish.

  • 15 Sep 2025, 11:44 a.m.

Blimey, give the man a break fellas. He’s only been here two minutes and you’re already painting hypothetical doomsday scenarios.

  • 15 Sep 2025, 11:48 a.m.

I'm not over-optimistic about the flamin galah's impact at this level.....but to talk about him being under pressure after one game, away against one of the top sides in the league, even with a tail wind of helpful projection, is a bit bonkers. What have we all become (hint: destabilised frothers)? It's as mad as suggesting that our most consistent quality player, has reached his level, and needs to be got rid of (or reluctantly tolerated) after a couple of bad games, around a time of personal and club instability.

I'm very at odds with the modern football world. I like to see patience and development. Everything now seems to be geared towards tipping the game over before anyone has a chance to win.

Exactly. I didn't see the second half of the Arsenal game because it was already too crap. 1 half is enough for me. Fuck off back to Australia.

  • 15 Sep 2025, 2:48 p.m.

This is a good game to get a look at the whole squad. I would like to see the youngsters play and Taiwo. if he is in the squad then fucking use him.

I think 4-4-2 with Abbott, Boly, Jair, Zinchenko.

    Luiz, Yates. Bakwa and Hutchinson.

Why not try jesus and Taiwo up front together. Let's battering ram them.

Of course we will use the new keeper too. Jhon or John Victor. Depending who is talking.

Have the big boys on the bench (apart from Murillo of course) in case they are needed.

This is what i would do but I am not Ange who wants a win. I think this is a decent team and good experience against the muck and nettles of the Championship.

If we aren't using the squad now then are we bothering with it at all?

    Chicago: Into Variety.

Edit. I have named the players not where they are playing as I am fully aware than Abbott (or Jair) should be on the right and zinchenko on the left..

Don't you get the best out of the squad long term by blending the fringe players with established ones in these games, rather than chucking in an entirely different team? I'd suggest resting anyone on international duty last week but that is still 7 of the last starting line-up and, of the other four, Murillo obviously isn't going to play either.

  • 15 Sep 2025, 3:34 p.m.

We've got players who need games (assuming that we are going to use them at all), and players who don't. Try to come to with a plan that gets those that do successfully through the round against the opposition in front of us.

You would think the likes of McAtee and other rarely used forwards in the squad would be useful for that.

Although some of them are a bit lightweight for a lower league humping.

  • 15 Sep 2025, 3:40 p.m.

Obviously if a change of formation to five in the midfield then McAtee will feature as the 10.

These are experience players apart from Abbott and Jair (and Jair has played a fair few games).

My team is completely fair. If we have a squad that can compete on all fronts then use them.

The hard game willl he great for Yates and Boly the other players will have to dig in against a super physical (I am guessing) performance.

Quite at peace with using my line up. We are short of defenders so Savona or the Serbinator as cover for a switch to a 3-5-2 would be fine.

    Chicago: Resourceful.
