I’m wondering whether Silva might be a better bet than Awoniyi to play down the middle when we are seeing games out at the moment. I believe he’s played there before, he can carry the ball up the pitch, he’s decent in the air, he’ll definitely work the central defenders and it removes the inevitability that he’s going to give away a penalty with his defending, because he won’t be in the area.
Actually trying to do something, is definitely a part of being a contributing footballer.
I'm not down on either at the moment, while still recognising they both have something yet to do to make the grade at this level. One is busy and a bit messy, one is elegant and technical, but isn't doing enough. I'm happy to give them a bit of time. Neither is a catastrophic drop off for an in game change (but if they were both the best we had in their positions it might be more of a struggle).
I just feel like Silva is showing us a bit more physically and with a desire to get involved. But totally agree with you that body language and workrate does not necessarily make an effective footballer. It can help though.
I'd certainly like to see Sosa start ahead of Jota. I'm starting to think we have the measure of the latter but not the former. It may well be that neither are of the standard.
And once again I will sing the praises of Elanga. His application is always complete and usually ends up with being effective.
