They were still Manchester United in the late 80s, when they hadn’t won the league in 20 years, had been relegated in the interim and the financial differences weren’t nearly as big - just ask Neil Webb and Peter Davenport.
I was watching them being shit last night and wondering when being shit will hit them commercially. If you were a glory hunting British kid or Nigerian, Korean or American soccer fan at the moment, you wouldn't pick them as your Premier League team, would you..?
Didn't Dennis Law relegate them with a back heel while playing for City.
I think all those things happened but possibly not all at the same time.
Edit: Largely true Google tells me except United were relegated cos Birmingham won so didn't matter what happened in their game (which I learnt was abandoned after the goal as United fans invaded the pitch hoping the game would be replayed like the Foreet Newcastle cup tie that season. No replay and the result stood).
MGW linked to Liverpool, which would seem tempting to him but a position they would be over-strength. Unless they wanted to send Curtis Jones down with a wheelbarrow of cash to placate us.
Can't see Wood leaving, but I also want his replacement ready to go.
We have been talking to him for three months. I am hoping that his European counterparts haven't offered him anything silly. Hopefully he didn't like the European lifestyle that much. His best mate is Tammy Abraham who coincidentially lives in Italy.
Maybe we can do a cheeky attempt at Tammy for the summer as he seems to be a bit injury prone nowadays but then again so was CHO.
