I’m not at all against him as a squad member to play a limited part in cup games and to fill in briefly for injuries.

If he was someone we had brought into the club from abroad people would be saying how shit he was.

He’s a top bloke by all accounts and I really admire him for making the most of his limited (at a top level) ability. But all I’m saying is if we are reliant on him as a starter for PL games on a consistent basis, then we are in a bigger world of trouble than we are currently.

    And rightly so.

But part of what Yates brings is the intangible benefit of a (reasonably) local lad who's been at the club since he was at primary school, who doesn't seem to have been particularly feted in his academy days but made it through sheer effort and work and has played 250 games for the club, over 100 of them in the premier league.

I sit on the other side of the fence on this argument. I think you completely undervalue Yates if you just see him as a bit part early round cup player. Whilst probably screaming blue murder about why we dont play expensive new signings who look completely gash when they are on the pitch.

I would be really happy to start Yates in PL matches especially away from home, when we may need to wrestle momentum from opposition, and do the hard yards. By all means then sub him off to bring on pace and stretch teams. But to say if we start with him we lose the game is, again in my opinion, nonsense

Looks like Luiz to villa is done. One in surely?

I am curious as to how this works. Would Juve have to pay us for breaking the loan deal? I assume this is driven by the player and sanctioned by Juve, but in theory we are the losers here. I know, I know in reality he has been a flop and we want him out, but do we get any form of compensation for technically having a player taken away from us when we had an agreement?

  • 27 Jan 2026, 2:13 p.m.

We're saving his not inconsiderable wage cost. We already asked Juve to renegotiate as we didn't want to trigger the purchase clause on 15 games, they were under no obligation to do so and we'd have been paying him presumably six figures a week to go shopping every weekend. So very much a win for us.

I think you are being extremely generous regarding his ability. You mentioned before he’s been a consistent in a churn of players. Have you thought as to why that may be?

  • 27 Jan 2026, 3 p.m.

Not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that because hes still at the club when others have left, hes not good enough to actually be at the club? Sounds a bit groucho marx to me

  • 27 Jan 2026, 3:38 p.m.

Not quite my point which was more along the lines of no one else has ever wanted him.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 3:49 p.m.

Except every Forest manager who has been here, which is surely the most important consideration

  • 27 Jan 2026, 3:58 p.m.

None of whom have started him in the Premier League except when forced to, which rather undermines your other thought.

I'm very much in line with Jim7. Good to have around the club but if he's playing meaningful minutes we have problems.

Line from the Wolverhampton Express and Star suggesting Forest have enquired about Jose Sa.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 4:21 p.m.

Think we get linked with him every window.

Was some talk last year that Gunn wanted out so that he could get/stay in the Scotland squad.

Sa isn't very good but also likely to be expensive for our needs.

This whole Luiz thing is daft. Both Chelsea and Villa want him and we fuck around over a few bob. At least play him Thursday before we send him packing to Birmingham..

I have no idea what we are doing really. Hopefully a Midfielder that is box to box to replace him then and also a left back and another striker considering Wood is buggered.

As long as we win against Palace Sunday then we can enjoy the transfer madness. Not sure if the Mateta thing was serious or we are after Strand Larsen or my old Aunt Violet.

    Typical Forest.

    Chicago: Baffled.

Underreported is "A player may not play in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Conference League for more than one club in a single season.", so Mateta couldn't play in the Europa league knockouts for us and neither can Lucca.
