Why do Brighton keep loaning Buonanotte to other Premier League clubs?

  • 26 Jan 2026, 10:02 p.m.

If they are anything like me, it will be because they like saying "thank you, and goodnight" every time they pack him off.

Even Dyche would not thing Dunk is a replacement for Murillo….

  • 26 Jan 2026, 11:49 p.m.

Who is? He's up there with Des as my favourite irreplaceable centre-backs.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 7:43 a.m.

Dunk is captain of Brighton, is from there and plays every game and probably thinks he stands a chance of going to the world cup. He isn't going to come here to sit on the bench.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 8:23 a.m.

Don't believe that he thinks that these days. I think he's seen him play.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 8:52 a.m.

I don't think he's coming at all. But for some reason I thought he was not a regular starter this season, that appears to have been wrong.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 10:02 a.m.

An odd one that, assume a nice little earner before he ends up in non league.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 10:10 a.m.

Looks like Luiz to Villa is happening. Now watch him play the full 90 in every remaining game...

  • 27 Jan 2026, 10:24 a.m.

I don't mind that...whether the problem was physical, or contractual, he wasn't massively solving a problem (obvious quality aside).

We could probably better (or worse) use the wage bill elsewhere.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 11:42 a.m.

Yes on another midfielder. Any of Anderson/Sangare/Dominguez get injured and we're relying on Yates starting at least some games. Having watched the Braga game can't say I would be confident.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 11:53 a.m.

I think thats harsh on Yates, just come back from an injury so he was always going to be a bit undercooked. In normal circs, the team could have compensated for that whilst he gets back to match sharpness. Not his fault his teammates didnt show up

  • 27 Jan 2026, 12:50 p.m.

He’s always going to be undercooked though as he’s only going to play when others are unavailable and back out when they are fit. And if he’s playing for any length of time we are in trouble.

I’d have been fine for the likes of Wrexham and should have been fine for the European games, but we can’t rely on him as a PL midfielder now.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 1 p.m.

Not sure I agree with any of that. At a club where we burn through players whilst extracting piss poor value from them, it amazes me when fans cant see what they have in players like Yates. Of course he is a PL midfielder, but just not one like the blessed Luiz. I watch Yates not for what he does with the ball, but for what he stops the opposition doing. Which is completely valid part of the make up of a strong team. Sure, hes not starting every week, but thats what we wanted this season to be like with decent squad depth.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 1:20 p.m.

Yates is a great squad member who knows his role as a bit of a destroyer and does it well. From the bench, when needs must.
If you start premier league games with him you’re probably not going to win that many.

  • 27 Jan 2026, 1:30 p.m.

I’m not at all against him as a squad member to play a limited part in cup games and to fill in briefly for injuries.

If he was someone we had brought into the club from abroad people would be saying how shit he was.

He’s a top bloke by all accounts and I really admire him for making the most of his limited (at a top level) ability. But all I’m saying is if we are reliant on him as a starter for PL games on a consistent basis, then we are in a bigger world of trouble than we are currently.
