There’s a strong possibility that Woody wouldn’t have started in the Cup game anyway, because of the travel - likewise Murillo; Brazil’s game vs Argentina isn’t until Wednesday, so the absolute earliest Murillo will get home is late on Thursday.

Provided Woody is OK for the United game, it’s no huge problem.

And as you say, it’s not like the club didn’t try to get a forward in January (& last Summer, for that matter). Would we rather they hurled money at it (to get a player who would have been very unlikely to be first choice at the time) and fall foul of PSR again? Any future PSR transgressions ain’t going to be 4 points…

I’m not suggesting no effort was made to get one. But if he’s out for any amount of time it’s really going to affect our CL chances.

Yes Arsenal didn’t get one and it’s costing them. Villa did and reaping the benefits.

And in Neco, who's in North Macedonia tomorrow night.

True - though the journey from Macedonia isn’t anything like as taxing as that from NZ / Argentina, both essentially on the other side of the world

And didn't they fund their buying spree by selling Duran first?

I'd forgotten about Evan Ferguson, who was on lots of people's lists in January (never seemed likely, given that Brighton are our direct competitors). 5 times off the bench in two months for West Ham, no goals yet.

I think he was injured when he first moved to West Ham. But I agree on your broad point, he's hardly pulling up trees.

A bit disenginuous to ignore their CL exploits as well as their FA Cup run which will likely see them in the semis at least.

You seem determined to panic, even before we have the slightest clue about how badly Wood is injured.

    Fill your boots.

I thought that was just agent talk trying to get him a move, can’t recall many being bothered about him.

Ferguson reactions seemed to reach the lofty heights of "might be good, probably better than nothing"

It seemed liked a choice between a loan that looks to rehabilitate him and increase his value for another club (at best) or a transfer priced based on a relatively limited number of early-career games where he looked like he could be top-notch.

Interesting choice for prospective buyers at your 50/60m price point: Delap, promising but not ready. Ferguson, was promising...seems to have gone down the pan...temporarily? Cunha, physically and technically the real deal, temperamentally a firework. Some Carlos, from a warmer country, and a less intense league, who may or may not fancy it, even if he can hack it.

Definitely think I could get more fun out of fifty million squid than buying a top flight striker.
