While I don't disagree at all, the technical and athletic standard for a fullback is significantly different from that of a particular type of centre-back.

Of course. It's completely impossible to compare different players, with different skillsets, and different jobs. This is why when people say things like "Messi is the best player in the world", I say things like "Not at centre half he isn't".
I don't disagree with Russ that the upgrade at centre half has been a, maybe the, key driver to our improvement. If that's the criteria its a shoe in.
