Of course there will be some people who get it right. Purely by dint of bell-end distribution of meaningless guesses.

There are some things to bear in mind when 'predicting'. Nobody has complete knowledge of all the factors involved, and even if they did, at a point in time, things would subsequently change unpredictably. They actually play the games, and sport is compelling, because of this inherent unpredictability.

Of course the deck is increasingly loaded, to shift the peak position of the curve for different teams, and narrow it's width. If you predict every league placing, you are not a genius, but just an inevitable statistical outcome.

    You have suttoned.

Not sure it's that surprising, to be honest. We're still relative PL newbies after a huge hiatus, and have struggled both seasons.

My view is that the recruitment this summer has been decent and pre-season has been more settled. I'd be quietly confident of a better season without getting carried away.

  • 12 Aug 2024, 1:28 p.m.

Yeah, I wasn't really surprised. At least three of those are wishful thinking, it's boring to just pick the three promoted teams and the obvious next in line is the team that finished 16th and 17th in the two previous seasons.

Added to that, our big signing is Elliott Anderson, who's had injury problems and has barely played at this level.

It's only from this perspective that you know Anderson looks a real prospect, we've held onto all the players we wanted to, have finally shown some stability, have attempted to fix the biggest problem with Milenkovic and that Sangare has torn up pre-season.

  • 12 Aug 2024, 1:45 p.m.

I haven't seen much in way of the games but has Sangare really torn it up in pre season or just looked a bit better and healthier than before?

  • 12 Aug 2024, 1:51 p.m.

We're definitely still in the mix for a possible relegation, but so are probably 10 others with the 3 that came up being favourites.

  • 12 Aug 2024, 1:51 p.m.

We could of course go down and are more likely to than probably at least 13 or 14 other teams. But I agree the preparation for this season in preseason has been better and we're in a much better position on paper than this time last year or the year before, at least if we manage to retain Murillo, Morgan Gibbs-White, CHO, Elanga. There's been cumulative improvement over the last two seasons, and I do think Nunonis a good manager and that we have looked more confident generally about being able to play to the level rather than be inferior but just smash and grab points with him at the helm.

If we do that and if Sangare carries his preseason form through to competitive games, we get another fullback and forward and we get off to a good start (we have been relatively blessed, for a change, with opening games which look like ones we may get points or even wins from on paper), we may well kick on to midtable. That could happen if Silva and Anderson settle and adds value, CHO continues his rehab, and Elanga and MGW carry on progressing. However, as ever these things are on a knife, a bad start and lose a key player or two the mood could shift rapidly and it could be another backs to the wall job. Chance as ever will play a big role.

I would probably sell Neco for £30M I think, as although he is good and may get better I'm not sure he's that good. That would depend on what we replaced him with though as we are not rich in experienced full backs. I'd probably say the same for Danilo at £40M.

I haven't seen any of the games but that seems to be the consensus and Nuno has, I think, picked him to start almost every game,

  • 12 Aug 2024, 2:03 p.m.

Yes this. It's a low bar he was starting from. Is he now just looking like a £25m, decent centre mid. Or better than that.

  • 12 Aug 2024, 2:04 p.m.

From what I have seen, he looks much more like the player we were promised this time last year. Breaks up play and plays the simple ball forward. Hard to tell, though, isn't it - he seems up to the pace of pre-season friendlies, at least.

The Bournemouth fan has them finishing 8th, I wouldn't worry too much about insight like that

Liverpool fan has Ange as the first manager sacked.

Still no sign of my season card so pinged them an email just to see what procedure would be if not come by end of week. Reply I got below which seems a bit odd given first game is Saturday...

Season Cards were dispatched last Tuesday so should be received in the next week or so. All Season Card holders will receive a new card.

If you haven't received by next Saturday, please email us and we'll advise next steps.

Pretty common terminology in the office, maybe it's American influence.

  • 12 Aug 2024, 6:01 p.m.

I would say so, although it's more commonly just "I'll ping you" meaning "I will send you some form of electronic communication including but not limited to email, chat or SMS".
