Not especially. See also the Ryan Yates argument.

    I don't understand the question.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 2:42 p.m.

Some of your statements look an awful lot like taking an interest, and expressing an opinion on, things that you say that you have no interest in. Which is at least a little odd. I was just giving you a chance to clarify your position before deciding whether to call you an idiot or a hypocrite.

    Ryan Yates is a hero.

    What's the argument?

  • 17 Jul 2024, 2:51 p.m.

    That doesn't help.

I care about the inputs and the process such that they benefit the product on the field. So for example, I care that we have a successful Academy because I can see its value to the talent / finance equation that every club has to balance. I don't actually care a jot about the individual players because most of them will never actually wear a first team shirt for us. Does that answer your question?

  • 17 Jul 2024, 2:55 p.m.

    Not really.

So you care about all the bits because it contributes towards the laundry and the goaling, now? I thought that you didn't care about the finances, because it was not your money....even though the use of the money has always contributed to the laundry and the kicking?

I'm erring towards a bit of both at the moment.

I care that we don't fuck the money up and get penalised. I don't care to spend much time poring over financial statements and spreadsheets in order to second guess the people at the club whose job it is to make sure that that happens. I will place my faith in them to make it work, and call them cunts if it doesn't.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 3:58 p.m.

Really? It is surely a massive people business, and treating those people well is likely to get the best out of them.

And then there is just the basic human decency angle of helping/supporting people through bad times.

Or you can be a cunt.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 4:11 p.m.

You appear to have confused my role. I am not a manager of this business, I am a customer of it. I care about the product, not the production.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 4:16 p.m.

We did this topic about 20 years ago, when Russ PLC had very strict opinions about what coloured shirt you were allowed to wear in the office, I believe white and blue were the only options…

  • 17 Jul 2024, 4:16 p.m.

It doesn't seem like you have a scooby what you actually care about, to be honest.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 4:20 p.m.

Until we have a replacement we need Taiwo, given his unavailability over the past two season for various reasons I would prefer it if we could sign a suitable forward who could become either Taiwo’s or Woods replacement.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 4:31 p.m.

I agree. All I'm saying is that if I'm running the show I'm shopping for his replacement right now.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 5:01 p.m.

Seems a bit sociopathic (cunty) to not care at all about the feelings etc of fellow humans.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 5:14 p.m.

I don't think so. I don't wish him any ill, I just want to have a reliable centre forward.

  • 17 Jul 2024, 6:27 p.m.

The bit I don't get is how absence for a personal issue makes him unreliable. If an employee takes a day's leave to attend a parent's funeral, you don't label them 'unreliable' (unless they've previously taken two such day's leave...), you express sympathy and welcome them back later. It makes no sense to add this absence to the absences due to injury (which I agree are a legitimate concern).

  • 17 Jul 2024, 6:36 p.m.

Agreed. The club have gone to lengths to explain his absence is not injury related. He gets a pass on this for me. But. If he isn't getting his pre season work done at the same time, and starts the season unfit or it leads to an early injury, then I'll be pissed.
