    Trolling.

Unfortunately no two managers can be in charge of our team, while playing against identical teams, in exactly the same moment, at exactly same time, with exactly the same status of our players ( form fitness physical development experience state of mind private situation contract status ).

So any attributed reductive numerical measure is of no real, err, value. As you know.

It would have been nice for Nuno to have had Burnley, Brentford and Luton at home.

  • 29 May 2024, 4:24 p.m.

Of course not but that's only a valid point if you think Nuno had it tougher than Cooper in that time. Do you? I don't, he had the whole PSR deduction debacle hanging over him, as well as all the referee nonsense and he lost Mangala. It was harder if anything than the period this season when Cooper was in charge.

And how is that trolling: exactly the same point was made on Match of the Day after the Burnley game. Are Lineker, Shearer and Wright trolls too. Someone expressing a view you disagree with isn't trolling. Particularly if it's grounded in solid evidence and reasoning.

On the contrary. It's based on comparing two numbers, with no reasoning at all.

Would Cooper have done better if he wasn't being constantly undermined and briefed against by his employer? Who knows. There are lots of intangible factors that we are not privy to. I'm basing my assessment on what I could see about how the individuals managed all aspects of what they had to deal with, and what they achieved while doing that.

I believe that's at least as useful a measure as comparing unlike for unlike numerical values.

    YMMV

Would have been nice for Nuno to get a result againt Chelsea.

  • 29 May 2024, 7:29 p.m.

It would. But at least Nuno saved us from another bumming by Man Utd. A great day at the WFCG was that.

This one keeps bothering me. Even from this distance, it seemed like Cooper didn't have the trust/confidence of Marinakis. If the owner is pressuring the coach to avoid defeat or else (who knows?) then the solution most of us wanted - Forest playing better football under SSC - was not available. Nuno was given more leeway to do that, and probably better guidance.

To turn that on it's head, part of the skill of being a good employee/manager is getting on with your key stakeholders. It's hard if they are difficult but they often will be. Ultimately he failed at that. Maybe it was an impossible job, maybe not.

  • 29 May 2024, 9:28 p.m.

Yes but he had to play Chelsea who were in the top 4 of the form table and had just thumped West Ham 5-0 and Spurs before that; Cooper played them when they were absolutely shite. Still a great result though.

I think where we are with this if we're both being honest is they are both good coaches. I think Nuno has a bit more confidence and experience at the level and that has allowed him to be a bit braver. To contextualise is, when Cooper started his first season in the PL the squad he had wasn't good enough to play like that and rightly he recognised that and played to the strengths. But as things improved he found it hard to adjust to a more progressive and ultimately slightly more productive style, which Nuno (coming to it with fresh eyes) did and it has yielded a slightly better return.

It’s going to be a long off season isn’t it…

Because she's a mermaid, cunningly hiding her fishy tail beneath that dress?

No, it's 'cause she's in Ilson, which is landlocked.
