That's my issue - we're blocking the pathway to the first team with questionable signings and then crying about it when the EPL says manage your money better.
We did have players on the fringes, but bombed them out for incredibly expensive imports - most of our U23s were got rid of, so the B team is pretty much an U20 side.
I'm not even convinced any of them train with the first team now, given Nuno's desire for a small squad and WMD-level of interest in the academy sides. At least SSC was involving them with the first team on a regular basis.

I know it’s hard for some to accept, but maybe this current crop just aren’t very good.

It is definitely a consideration. As someone said recently, the lads out on loan aren't exactly flying at present. And a Premier League relegation battle isn't the best entry route for new young players.

I accept that (almost) no-one is saying “do nothing at all”; the favoured option (mine too) is to develop the existing location. But I’d say that the club are 100% right to look at other options, for (at least) 2 reasons; in a hard-nosed negotiation, if the other side knows that you have no option, they have you completely over a barrel, and you’re utterly fucked. Plus there is always the possibility that developing the current location to the requisite standard genuinely might not prove possible, given that it isn’t our land.

I don’t think the latter is the case, but not one of us has any idea of what’s really happening, let alone of the detail of what will be a hugely complex topic. I’m involved with a planning application at work - it’s uncontroversial, everyone is in favour of it (Council, local residents, everyone)… but it’s still taken 4 years and counting and cost a fuck-ton of money.

My expectation (& hope) is that this ends with Forest acquiring the freehold and then going ahead with developing the CG. But the level of sentimental panty-wetting at even the possibility of any change whatsoever is pretty depressing.

I’m delighted that some people are able to walk to the ground. I used to do it myself, many years ago. But nowadays I live >3 hours’ drive away, and in this division it is essentially impossible to get a home ticket unless I call in favours from a mate. Not difficult; impossible. The ground is sentimentally superb; but in reality it is a complete shit-hole. Something needs to change; if the club wants to be successful, then more revenue is not negotiable. Do nothing and we’re on a one-way ticket back whence we came. Someone on a podcast I listened to earlier mentioned Sheffield Wednesday. They’re in an historic, once (40+ years ago) top class old ground which they can’t develop (and which no doubt their fans still love). We could very easily be another Wednesday.

Still, of that happens at least I’ll be able to get a ticket, eh?

Aren’t they closing the cattle market soon? Thats a big piece of land that’d work well for a new stadium. Knock down Meadow Lane while they’re at it and we could ground share.

Wednesday could very easily develop Hillsborough - it's footprint is probably too big for what they need, and they could easily close a stand for a season and have enough tickets. But the owner has said he won't any more money in because the fans were mean to him.

Reminds me, I got dogs abuse coming out Sheffield Station after the Chelsea game (in my shirt) from 3 different groups. Mostly "Scab!" and a few "Wanker!". And it's not just about the relegation battle, it's about the appearance of the club. We can't sell the academy as a route to the first-team anymore, so are hardly going to attract quality players, and it also makes it look like the quality of coaching isn't good enough if we're not bringing anyone through to the first-team - even our number of youth internationals is declining.
But if anyone does want a look at them, the U21s are in Notts Senior Cup final action at Eastwood tonight, v Basford (they lost their PL2 q-f 3-1 (Osong scored) at Reading on Saturday, not that you'd know it from the club website)
