Lower Exec has always suffered from the fact they just bolted seats onto the existing terrace and there's not enough space.

That sounds like a two season operation - so presumably we'd be at Meadow Lane for the interim? Welford Road is the only other place I can think as a possibility and I'm not sure how realistic that is for football.

Not sure you'd need to move, although capacity would be restricted for a season or two.
If we did, I imagine it would be to the Crisp Bowl though.

Ah is that what they did? Yeah you can tell. When stood up in the space between my seat and the one in front I was half on a step which seemed bizarre.

I know Leicester played a playoff(?) game at the CG when they were moving but I can't see them hosting us for an extended period.

    Motorpoint Arena
    Pride Park
    Villa Park
    Hillsborough
    Bet365 stadium
    Walkers Crisp Bowl

Not brilliant options. I'd go for Villa Park personally: within an hour, no ill history, good transport links, big and we'd probably fill it and get a good atmosphere, would suit the southerners. Obviously Prince William/David Cameron/Tom Hanks would need to be consulted.

Their new ground capacity is 17,250.

Who owns Pride Park these days? Can we buy that, install red seats for a season, and then burn it down?

I agree that the CG is a badly outdated stadium, and whilst you could rebuild entirely on that site.. it would be quite the undertaking and the possibilities are limited given the size and surrounds.

But like Simon Says, out-of-town grounds were all the rage until everyone realised how awful they are. Why might not have many options, but that absolutely shouldn’t be any of the ones we do. I really do hope it’s all part of the dick-waving contest before everyone decides to be sensible and not do something so dumb and permanent.

Lots of new houses, often with a Lake District theme.

I've never seen it, but isn't this a Kevin Costner movie plot, if we build at Toton, 50,000 will come.

Actually why is 50k being touted, if we had any proper fucking ambition we'd build the biggest stadium in the country, we should be doing 100k minimum.

The proposed site in Gamston (by the A52 roundabout, I think) is barely better than Toton (it's a just about walkable from WB but a very long walk to the station). And doesn't even have a tram stop, so they can't even pretend it wouldn't mean everyone having to drive there.

What about the land north of the city ground on the river where the rugby club is

  • 14 May 2024, 12:10 p.m.

I thought that too but it’s taken 7 years for them to grant the new footbridge which is just about to be built to Lady Bay so gawd knows how long that’d take. Plus the owner has to be willing to sell the land. And it’s on a flood plain.

They'll be glad of the extra income.

  • 14 May 2024, 12:16 p.m.

It shouldn't be beyond the wit of builders to make it flood proof. But maybe it is, what do I know

  • 14 May 2024, 12:24 p.m.

Why has Wilford Lane never been considered? It's massive, we already own it, and it has pretty much all the benefits of the City Ground.
