I like non league football as I like any football but you aren’t wrong. There are some very good individuals at lower down, a few have been in the PL academies but there is rarely much danger of an exciting game of football breaking out. It is pretty direct and as much time wasting and spoilers as you see in higher leagues.
You also get the same stupid arguments like Corby being the leagues Leeds United as they take 50 fans to away games or fans of some opposing clubs saying there was no atmosphere at your ground etc.
When the difference between PL and EFL is being able to (afford to) get a ticket, you can see where people are coming from, even if I agree it was probably inevitable.
Not everyone is all about seeing the best possible football / players, for some it will be more about the day out with family and friends. Ok there are cheaper ways to do that but I can't help but feel that the further away from those people we move, the less rooted we are in the community. Again, maybe inevitable - but not desirable in my view.
It is possible to enjoy football that is of differing quality. As it is possible to enjoy different foods, rather than your favourite every day. You may be conflating how you feel, with how everyone should feel. I have a friend whose daughter (U12) is due to be playing cotgrave soon. I shall look at popping along, as I did when my friend (who coaches an under-9's team) played them recently. I watched forest in the third division, every week. It was crap. If I hear the noise of football happening nearby, I will often divert into the field to see who is playing, and what they can do. I wont be jumping up and down and abusing the opposition fans. I will just be watching some football actions.
I would argue that's enjoying football...the notion that football has be be as close to perfect as possible to be enjoyable is laughable. The sort of games that almost everyone enjoys depend fundamentally on imperfection.
It's not necessary to disparage everything that you eat, that isn't filet mignon.
I am clearly not doing that. I am quite clearly and repeatedly stating my personal view, not that anyone else should feel the same.
I too have seen more than my fair share of shit football from Forest over the years. I too was at Woking, Bournemouth, and other legendarily abject games, just like many/most of us here. I don't want to watch shit football any more. YMMV.
I have my Melbourne City membership and go to all the home games. I enjoy it because I enjoy the ‘going to a sport’ aspect of it all.. but, honestly, it’s shit football and I am not remotely interested or bought into any of it. Whereas I thoroughly enjoy watching and following Forest and, indeed, the Premier League in general. Because whilst it is corrupt and unfair and unethical in a million ways.. the product is top notch.
Premier League Forest are not the Forest I supported back in the day (which did include some time as one of the best sides in England) but I am at peace with that.
I have seen a suggestion that we are close to triggering a clause in Montiel's contract that would oblige us to buy him, and that we are trying not to do that.
Or not. Last weeks co commentator was raving about our strength in depth because we have an Argentine World Cup winner on the bench. Another example of how pundits don’t bother with research anymore.
I believe we have managed to not play him enough so that the clause cannot be triggered. When he came on as a sub a couple of games ago, it was suggested that even if we played in every week now, there weren't enough games left.
Please don't tell me that. I was enjoying him not being available.
I thought we saw the worst of his mate, and his shortcomings, at the weekend as well. I don't have an answer, but for me the midfield needs bigger, stronger, faster, harder working or more bodies.
Yeah. I've been a big Dominguez fan but he was a passenger on Sunday. Not really sure why he got dropped in the middle of a run of really good form though, maybe some idiot in the media was bleating about meaningless statistical runs of homegrown players.
Dominguez and Danilo looks too small a partnership for a game like this. One of them and one of Yates and Sangare (in principle) against the bigger units of Everton would seem pragmatic.
But I wasn't unhappy with the selection. It just didn't work out.
