Quite amusing to see a section of the fan base talking about how we have definitely been nobbled for points under FFP, while another section are linking us with players and discussing who to buy.

More than anyone ever talks about the actual football.

If Brennan's fee being in 2023/4 puts us only slightly over the limit for 2020-2023, then we must be very comfortable for 2021-2024 at the moment.

Not that comfortable if potential 'buyers' are already full of our offcuts, and can't hold any more.

🚨 Everton + Nottingham Forest expecting to be informed on Monday that they’ve been found in breach of PL profitability & sustainability rules for 3yr cycle to June 2023. Both have prepared mitigation & will launch robust defences @TheAthleticFC #EFC #NFFC

You’d think there would be some legal argument against a regulation that prevents a business taking full market value for something due to a cut off date put in before the end of that trade period.

I agree. I'm not saying it's a good defence. As I said, if we've been charged and broken the rules then we'll have to take our medicine. But at risk of repeating myself, that doesn't mean we can't point out the the rules are ridiculous.

This is the difference between laws, and agreed rules to establish eligibility to join a competition.

The legal entity that is a company has to comply with the law. Nothing more. Nottingham forest football club has to additionally comply with the competition rules that it enters. Which is nothing to do with the law. It is entirely at it's liberty to leave the competition, and ignore the rules.

No one is allowed to point that out on the holier than thou talkback

Man City managed to get some charges to a court?

  • 14 Jan 2024, 9:19 p.m.

Not under company law. There are procedures in the competition rules for arbitration and appeal. Manshitty have a limitless pot of money to exhaust those, and bankrupt the governing institutions. Also the rules under which they were charged were old rules. We are under new rules.

If we and Everton are both docked 6 points we will still be out of the relegation places, 2 above Burnley and 2 behind Luton. Not great but survivable and could be much worse. Also would give us license to spend our assess off this window and get a competent keeper on basis Johnson fee is an effective positive windfall for next accounting period.

Well, it's based on private law (contractual) obligations rather than any public law or regulatory obligations.

Of course, in the same way that you have recourse under the law if you are unhappy with a packet of biscuits, and not satisfied with the restitution offered by the retailer or manufacturer. It's just likely to cost you a lot more than a packet of biscuits to do so.

Manshitty have enough money to pursue recourse, until the governing bodies can't afford to be in the biscuit game any more. That's the problem.

If we do get a penalty tomorrow, we can probably expect the lawsuits from Leicester, Leeds and Southampton to follow shortly after.
