Love that the stats crowd can't get their head around one of their favourite measurement stats not actually providing insight into a game of football.

Possession is only going to be insightful towards outcome if all other things are equal*. That is to say, if you have the majority of possession, but never try to score, you will not win a single game. Even if your possession is 100%. The stat these people really need is percentage per possession percent of actually trying to go something.

Or they could use their eyes.

    * If one side takes risks with the ball, and tries to score**, and another side doesn't***, the outcomes will likely be quite different for the same possession, and same quality level.

    ** ie traditional English football.

*** ie this turgid Spanish dancing crap that the commercial corruption of football, in favour of protecting a small number of brands, has lumbered us with.

I agree with the turgid dancing stuff. Are you saying the move to Spanish dancing is a deliberate strategy related to the commercial corruption or just that the team most guilty appointed a dancing proponent and we've ended up with all and sundry (not us) fannying around with it in their own box as an accidental by product?

Pretty sure the stats crowd aren't very interested in possession any more. It's all about xG now. Which we are also pretty poor on (see the expected points table here: understat.com/league/EPL/2024 which has us 14th) but the real ones know that you have to consider game state and our incredible propensity to score first means that teams are likely to be racking up xG from poor chances that we are pretty happy to be allowing.

Having said that, as the universal opinion of everyone associated with the club is that possesion is irrelevant and it's what you do with it, it is slightly unfortunate that before every home game, they play a clip of the club's greatest manager saying, "they had the ball more than us and on, on our pitch, that's sacrilege".

The modifications to the rules, and the interpretation that brushing against someone, or having a part of your body on the pitch, that a protagonist may choose to effect proximity to, collapse to the ground, and be given a free kick, means a removal of physical elements of the game. This is a potential leveller, and thus by financially doping the costs of acquiring and maintaining players, and changing the nature of compensation for young player theft, while waving in multi-club ownership, means that the more financially able clubs can stockpile the more technically proficient players, who are then protected such that the dancing element achieves a disproportionate advantage over, for example, sticking it in the mixer.

Options for bucking the trend are limited. Roughly distilling down to playing them at their own game, with massively inferior players, and likely getting humped....or not trying to, but trying to actually make a tiny number of opportunities produce a return.

I've had to call in a favour with my uni pal who works at the FA and he's usually forwarded the email by now when it's staff tickets. I might give him a gentle nudge this evening if I've still not heard back, although it may be that they weren't ready if you're only just getting yours now from the club.

Could you consider breaking that into two or even three sentences? I’m blue in the face.

You got commas, suit yourself if you don't want to use them to breathe. I can't do everything for you.

Talksport talking about mascots, we are the most expensive with a £1800+vat package of child plus 3 adults with hospitality.

Half the Premier League do it for free apparently (which to me is more surprising than the amount being charged by us).
