They’ve brought in glamour architects, and as the original proposal was not remotely in line with what Foster & Partners tend to get involved in, I expect it’s likely that the design process is getting a reboot. I also saw something about the apartment portion being uneconomical (and, TBH, apartments there is a shit idea). So yes, a long way to go before anyone is digging holes.
In terms of whether they'll sell, or whether you'd want to live there?
I'm pretty sure they will sell. WB is pretty desirable, you'll likely have a view of the river, near town, and there's a great number of Forest fans who will happily live next to the stadium. Look at the other side of the river and the flats that are in the old council building next to the boat club. All fully occupied.
In terms of giving up a chunk of the site to a development you don’t control and will find it very difficult and expensive to ever get rid of. It limits future development potential and, in the shorter term, takes up space that would be better left as open space around the stadium. The financial return on a modest apartment block will be small beans by football standards. We’re spending money to buy up properties around the Bridgford stand so that they can be demolished. Many clubs have development plans compromised because of the difficulties of residential developments close by. It’s fucking mental to put a new one there on purpose.
Ah, after I'd posted I did wonder if that was the angle you were suggesting. I agree it could cause issues. I can only presume that the club are certain they'll likely never need that bit of land. 🤷
DT suggests they were going to be built to make a bit of money, but as building costs are so high now it’s not worth it. But that it doesn’t matter as Marinakis is fucking loaded.
1st April 2013 (Easter Monday) away. Played Sharp/Blackstock having played Henderson/Cox on the Saturday before.
23rd November 2013, home. Played Mackie and Cox having played the same two the previous week.
22nd Feb 2014, away. Played Djebbour and Mackie (and Abdoun was also in the team). Previous game played Cox and Mackie.
So it'll be the last one. After WMD was fired, Warnock's stated reason for turning down the job was Fawaz wanting Abdoun and Djebbour in the team.
