If the original me disappears with the inevitable failure of the carbon platform, but a copy that has all of the same memories and thought functions is planted in an artificial unit is allowed to continue with the same identity, have I actually died at all? I think it depends whether we believe in the concept of a soul, or if we think that who we are is entirely a function of electric signals and neural pathways that are formed as a result of experience and memory. I'm rather more inclined to the latter view.

The all-digital human future will be millions of clones of whoever the billionaires are at the time of the tech breakthrough. It won't be us.
