I see that in a they are all the same, and the labour government is doing nothing news, that at an EU UK summit there is currently the announcement of a wide range of measures that will radically improve our trade, security and movement of goods. Net effect, the ordinary people in the country better off, with more opportunity, and less isolated from collective action.

All for the ‘proper’ lefties to vote Green and allow Farage to undo all this in 4 years time.

We are going to have to talk about this sort of stuff, if we are going to thwart Putin's destabilising propaganda.

If there was an election next week I think I'd struggle to vote Labour. I probably would cause Farage. But it's not going well if I'm even questioning myself. This EU stuff helps a bit.

It perhaps pays to think tangentially.

Like: You know all those information sources that pretended one thing, that turned out to be a complete load of damaging horseshit? Is there any reason to trust them that the current government are all the same and doing nothing? Perhaps have a closer look. Also bear in mind that while it would be nice to effect objectively egalitarian and morally, intellectually, and ethically ideal, actions, that might be tricky in an environment where you can get widespread evisceration for buying a field for retired donkeys to live out their days in, for the simple pleasure of a disabled elderly relative.

If there was an election next week who would you vote for and for what reasons?

I would hold my nose and vote for a labour government not ideologically well aligned with my values, but that is genuinely trying to staunch the bleeding, and most importantly is my enemies, enemy. Which I can tell, because the massed ranks of my enemy are attacking them at every possible move.

And perhaps most importantly they are the only game in town to buy time against those that would completely demolish our democracy, and asset strip what's left when we cant fight them.

^ Pretty much this, as far as I’m concerned. The thing I find most frustrating about Labour is that although they have a huge majority and four years until an election, they’re being ridiculously cautious and not showing enough radical ambition.

    Agreed with both posts ^

    <Grammar police klaxon>

This is where I would once have said that Proportional Representation helps, so Proper Lefties can vote Green or whatever and it doesn't destabilise a left block.
But MMP (our PR implementation) has right fucked us.

For the record I'm in favour of a truly representative PR based democracy, it guards a country against extremism, and makes sure that the true mean views of the people are more likely to be represented/followed. Which is why establishments undermine it with whatever means possible.

Spoiler: it doesn't. When the biggest party lets the racists and conspiracists run the show as long as they back privatisation, roads, and tax cuts, then you have an extremist country.

I didn't think this would happen either.

Highly likely that is because other factors are in play than a representative PR government acting in good faith for the people.

I think I've spotted the flaw.

It's still a tedious Left/Right split, and the Right party got dragged, involuntarily or not, to worse. A horrible, but better, option would have been the Grand Coalition of the big centrist parties.

I wasn't sure which thread deserved to get this post, but this is one of the oddest things I've heard for a while...
