Except that most of them did in 2019. (Which is why Johnson can't be ruled out as a future Tory leader.)

That was a ‘Brexit’ election so perhaps different.

And these loons will do nothing to help them win back the 60 ish seats the Lib Dem’s gained from them. (And they were within 10000 votes in 60 other seats).

10,000 is a lot of votes, did you mean 1,000? Regardless, people tend to vote for or against the government, so a lot of the protest votes that went to reform and the lib dems last time are likely to swing back to the tories next time.

Obviously Jenrick and Badenoch aren't really plays for the ones that switched to the lib dems, which is why I suspect Clevely may have been fortunate to lose out this time, able to watch whoever wins tank and then come back as the "told you so" candidate either before or after the next election.

It’s 10000 which isn’t that huge anymore. Majorities of over 20000 were being beat this time. LDs will need to convince less than 5000 Tories in those constituencies to vote for them and they will think they can.

Anyone who still voted tory this time around doesn't seem very likely to stop doing so any time in the near future.

This is the most grimly fascinating aspect of it all. What we have just been through is not bad enough? What would it take for them not to?

They can't all be billionaires who own newspapers and want a friendly beachhead for their money and influence.

Maybe so, but some softer campaigning by left leaning parties and tactical voting may see them lose more. And they’ll probably need some of that 60 lost back.

That story even reads like a cartoon.

They didn't have that solid storylines like that going on in that Melbourne cop show Pheonix.

Thank you for the contributution from the gammon party there, so unfortunate that you seem to believe that history was only one recorded event. It's got us into a lot of trouble.

To be fair to yer average gammon, they'll often cite1066 Hastings and 1966 Wemberlee so that's at least more.

So do we have to change the song to "Ten Italian bombers"?

  • Ingopanorama_fish_eye

It's called World War Two for a start, even I can do mathematics at that level.

Everyone know they didn't have bombers, they had tanks, and those tanks had lots of gears, all reverse.

Given the the loss of national styles (4-4-fucking-2 vs Dutch flair etc), the internet ruining any surprises and the boom in trave/immigration etc isn't the concept of international football a bit of a pointless charade these days anyway? Money, obvs.
