I love shooting guns and do it every opportunity I get. But there's a big difference between a fun couple of hours blasting holes in bits of paper and pointing one at another human being.

The guns would only be used if someone forcibly broke into the house. We have gun licenses but not concealed carry. At no point would I ever allow either one of us to brandish a gun outside. That would be the stupidist thing ever.
As for leaving. I am 7 years from retirement and bought a lovely house in 2023. It cost a lot. I am invested but I haven’t ruled it out. Wifey even though we have been married 29 years seems less keen on us rocking up in the Scottish highlands to leave peacefully in a cottage. Sounds ace to me but marriage is a contract and it takes two to tango etc etc.

My wife is all about a move to Scotland. I bring it up frequently.
And to Russ’s comment that it’s very different when you actually have a real, live human down range: this was my number one argument to the utter nobbers who suggested arming teachers. You seriously asking me to take a bead on a student I likely know and may have taught for possibly years? 2A people are fucking idiots.

I used to be a medic. I have seen shootings. I have treated shootings. I understand how dangerous guns are. I don’t like guns. I realize having them means that in a life threatening struggle I would be forced to use them. Before a trump got back in I never considered having them. All this had chanced my mind: This government is lawless. If it’s a choice between us and them.. it’s them…

Interesting take. The way I look at it, I don't (largely) see any evidence that the current goverment have sold us out to those that would do us harm. But obvuiously there are forces against them that control the reporting. The power of propoganda (advertising) is well known.
If you measure this government as incompetent, how would you measure the various previous tory administrations? There's a reason that outcomes are historically better under labour (building social capital, balance of payments, etc), but the Tories win substantially more elections.
It's because the people who are most invested in specific outcomes, also have most control over the messaging.
