I literally flew through that airport just two weeks ago. So close.

    No idea how it happened.

I suspect ice as it's a tad cold at the moment...

Oh and they fired thousands of FAA staff here today which I am sure will make the Airplane situation better.

    WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently a technical failure with the flaps combined with trying to land in snow and strong crosswinds are believed to be the cause right now. 3 critically injured, 12 non threatening injuries.

As anti-Trump as I am, I think he is less responsible for a Canadian plane flip than all the other horrors going on. I'm sure* the autonomous airplanes the get grokked into existence will be far safer than human-piloted ones.

    *Not remotely sure

I think there's a reasonable possibility that the removal of safety inspectors and processes could lead to an increased level of technical failure in US aircraft, and that's very much on Trump.

He doesn't give a fuck. He wants to cause as much chaos as possible to distract everyone from the fact that they are stealing everything. Judges allowing Elon Musk to get into the social security agency is the height of insanity.

100%. But the safety stuff would be expected over time, rather than day 1. Whereas plane crashes in the States might well be caused directly by his decisions already.

Just wait until the Ukraine war is “resolved” and see what happens to its critical minerals. And those of Greenland if Trump gets his way. It’s no coincidence that those countries both have stacks of the stuff that will be needed for US (and Musk) to dominate AI and other tech. See also Space X which you can bet your life on will be targeting asteroid mining for the same reasons.

Is the conclave film good? I started reading the book but got bored. I had high hopes as I generally like his books, the Dreyfuss book is one of my favourite books ever, but it didn't grip me.

Wondering whether to give the fim a go

I think a few of us have mentioned it in the movies thread. I enjoyed it - if you like films that mostly involve good actors talking conspiratorially, it's a good example of that genre. Looks amazing, acting great, didn't see the ending coming. I honestly can't really see how it would be nearly as good as a book.
