They're honestly worse than the USMNT fans were with Turner.

I can remember their fans posting some truly unhinged conspiracy stuff on football message boards accusing the Premier League/European teams of having it out for US players. Bobby Convey and Landon fucking Donovan the most notable, iirc.

This has made me Google Ooh Ben Olsen.
Head coach of Houston Dynamo, apparently.

    Sean likes this.

Also Robbie Findley. Doesn't seem to be still in the game.

Yes, he was the energetic athletic winger. Can't recall how technically good he was, but then again he didn't really need to be at the level we were at the time.

    No.
But I realise I may be missing a joke here somewhere.

should I recognise that guy (and why has he got a microphone in the crowd?)?

That video went semi viral a few years ago, he's USMNT personified. If you want to go down that particular hilarious rabbit hole, google "I believe that we will win" which I think was their chant from the South Africa WC. I love that North America is embracing soccer but the way they do it is so fucking cringey.

I expect to be at an event with Landon Donovan later this month, going to find it very hard not to ask about his hair transplant…

Linked up with Owen Goal v West Brom in a Boxing Day(?) fixture as I recall.

Hannah of the Bobblehats declared it was understandable that a player could momentarily get confused about which goal was which. Because Hannah.

Then we broke him and he went home. I too have a limited recollection of actual ability but everone seemed to think he was the bollocks.

4 centre backs. The return of Megson. I think his record was 6. Tough to beat.

    Must say, it looks horrible!
Maybe the plan is for him to finally get rid of the Angeball tag by playing a back 6…

Sadly that side might be just about our best chance of getting anything today. Which is hilarious when you consider how much we spent on attacking players this summer.

It's the team of a man sacrificing his principles in a desperate attempt to scrap out some kind of result.

Even if it works, what does it prove?

It depends if it's part of a wider acceptance that tactics / adaptability are needed to succeed in this league. Even Pep, with his stacked squad, is evolving his style to deal with new challenges. A Warburton-esque "Plan B is to do Plan A better" was naive in the Championship, let alone in the PL.

I think it must be Anderson, Yates and MGW in a midfield 3, so 3-5-2 rather than 3-4-3 (which would feel like suicide against their midfield). Savona as a wing-back might be interesting.
