I would have thought we'd keep him. I'd be surprised if we got a silly offer for him, hasn't he only played a few first team games (here and in Brazil). A CB of him and Bindon (with Abbott as back up) may be fine at Championship level.
You’d think we’d get over £200m for MGW, Anderson, Sangare and Murillo if we get relegated which should keep the accountants happy. So I’d expect/hope us to keep anyone like Cunha as we will need some quality to get back up. I tend to think you have one decent chance of coming back.
You look at our squad and it's hard to see many wanting to stay if we go down. We would likely end up with a lot of money but very few players and a huge rebuilding job for someone to do. Do we trust ourselves to do that in a well managed fashion?
In our current circumstance, we could do worse than a man called Dyche, in our possible next circumstances there's a man called Cooper, and then to take us forward from there is a man called Nuno.
Unfortunately the last time these men did nice things for us, we shot them in the arse with a 12 bore.
Stop beatifying them
Nuno shot himself in the arse with Edu’s gun.
Cooper got as long as anyone could reasonably get.
Dyche was on a downward spiral and blaming everyone else.
The idea that it all comes down to this one man who is called the Manager or Head Coach is ridiculous. They all have to operate within a bigger ecosystem and ours is not cohesive and is often chaotic. Our best managers succeeded in creating a group mentality and shared objectives, they were both undermined by chaotic recruitment that disrupted their main strength. Maybe they ran their natural course, but the decision making around them is the problem we need to address.
No, I’m not debating that they did nice things (by and large), I’m just responding to your comment about arse-shooting.
All of our managers knew what they were getting into and what the rules of the Marinakis game are, whether here or elsewhere. They will all back themselves to make it a success.
I don't disagree with this, or at least they'll see the money as great compensation for trying, I just think as a club we are getting it all wrong. Obviously the counter argument is that we are in the Premier League for the first time in a generation and last year we got into Europe, but I think we're storing up trouble through bipolar decision making, that goes well beyond the relative performance of individual managers.
We are a great gig for a manager/head coach to get. In and out in a jiffy, with a pile of cash, and no impact on reputation (within football, not with the fans, obvs).
No argument from me at all on that concept. Burrrtttt….My sympathy for the managers is tempered by the “eyes-open” argument. And part of the Marinakis hubris and chaos is what got us here in the first place.
