I'll be honest, I have no idea what the Europa League table looks like, where we are, what we need, or what other results I should care about. Until this post I had no idea that Celtic were in it. I watch when Forest are playing in it if it's convenient to do so but I can't summon up the energy to remotely care about what the result means.
It's a league table. We won't play the majority of teams in it. I couldn't tell you if Utrecht is in Germany, Holland, or is the bit that connects your bladder to your cock.
They are flooding the zone with meaningless virtual friendless. What does being in the Europa league even mean? That you are one of the top hundred teams in Europe, but definitely the bottom fifty of those?.... a status that can be exceeded by being in top two leagues in England. Why are we giving our status and money to them?
I'm more interested in playing Wrexham in the oldest football competition in the world. That means something to me. This Europe stuff is just slog and giggle at this level.
That’s the Wrexham who are Disney+ FC? I’m also not sure you’ll get Russ aligned on Welsh clubs playing in “English” competitions.
Anyway, I think there is something fun about playing European sides. Admittedly the concept has been over-expanded (like the World Cup) but it’s part of our heritage. I’m also glad we came away with a win in a game by playing a number of fringe players, and safely negotiated the return of Murillo and Luiz (and Zinchenko, obviously).
I like watching forest in any competition. And have enjoyed these games (apart from midget land). It’s almost more enjoyable as it doesn’t feel the outcome matters so much and is a bit of fun. It must also be great for those following us away.
Me neither and very much can't be arsed with it but I reckon if we win every game from now until the end of the season we'll probably win the thing. Like a cup competition. Winky thing.
Very much enjoyed your satirical normal football fan sketch here.
All sporting clubs subject to corporate involvement are morally compromised to a greater or lesser extent, of course.
The comparison was to that of a historic football club. Formed 150 years prior to the Europa league. And the status in my eyes of the oldest football competition in the world. Which is being buried and rendered inconsequential by those corporate interests. In favour of more slog and giggle matches to rinse the paying public.
I've loved it so far - just for the change really. The atmosphere at the 3 home matches so far has been really good / different. I've not had the chance to go away yet (seemingly looking good for Braga though) but even watching us doing something different on the telly has been enjoyable. I can imagine for supporters of clubs who are European regulars it all becomes a little underwhelming after a while, but we're not there and probably never will be. I'm all in, and looking forward to explaining to the wife why I might need to go to Turkey in May
I totally agree about the playing European sides bit, apart from anything else it encourages people to socialise with people from all parts of Europe (not just lying on a beach in a tourist resort) which I thing has some benefit in reducing the 'we good, they horrible tossers' vibe being promoted widely. Great to see Murillo and Luiz back but personally I would like to safely negotiate the return of Zinchenko to wherever he camest from at the soonest possible opportunity.
