Turner hasn't put a foot wrong other than the goal, and he was far from the only one who shat the bed on that.

Strong as an ox, there. Love how the defender just bounced off him on the turn.

  • 30 Jan 2024, 9:26 p.m.

But the goal made the difference.
You could even argue that he came too far back across his goal for the second too.

Goalies are going to give up goals. We're into full scapegoat territory now, when he was actually pretty decent tonight - made a couple of very good saves, kicking was solid enough, and commanded well from corners.

  • 30 Jan 2024, 9:30 p.m.

Worrall notably last man to leave the pitch.

  • 30 Jan 2024, 9:33 p.m.

I agree that he did better tonight but he still lost us the match with a really basic error. I wanted him to succeed but think if we don’t get a replacement for him tomorrow, we’ll be relegated in May.

That's his thing, just when you think he may be getting it he makes at least one catastrophic comical error a game. A good keeper saves you 15 points a season, but he costs us more. It's not funny any more. He is the worst signing since Eugene Dadi.

  • 30 Jan 2024, 9:51 p.m.

I'm not sure what goalie you think would have won us that game with the amount of possession we surrendered. That performance was right back to Cooper, both good and bad - occasionally we nicked those, not least against Arse last season, but all too often we quite predictably couldn't hold out for 95+ minutes and ended up chasing it.

Still, it's Arsenal and we should probably expect to lose those games. I think we're probably still outperforming expectations vs the top half this season, the much bigger problem is our inability to finish off shittier teams. Hopefully a return to Nuno's rather more progressive and attacking style this weekend.

Big pros: Elanga, Awoniyi, MGW back. They really are our best weapons by a country mile, probably all are good enough for top half squads and if we stay up they will likely be playing a big part in that I expect.

  • 30 Jan 2024, 10:24 p.m.

@Russ if that was the first goal Turner had cost us this season you might have a point. It's at least the 4th off top of my head (Liverpool away, Man U home, Brentford away, Arsenal home) and there's probably more. And then all those that indirectly from phases after poor kicks or due to defenders having no faith in him.

Don't want to ever see him in Forest shirt again.

And I do not see where the points we need to stay up are coming from. We are less than a piont a game currently. Keep that up and we get to mid 30's. Then take off 10 or more...

Can add Spurs at home to that list, off the top of my head. That was one of the worst: created the goal with his fluffed kick and then awful awful attempt to dave Kulusevski's shot. Brentford at home he also did as bad but didn't by good fortune result in a goal. It's like he's possessed by Frank Spencer. Can we actually recall any good games he's had? Chelsea away he didn't get found out but his kicking even then was a liability.

  • 30 Jan 2024, 10:35 p.m.

We're 4 points behind where we were after 22 games last season. We definitely need to pick up form if we're going to overcome a deduction as well, but since Nuno took over we have 6 points from 5 games including being absolutely jobbed against Bournemouth. Carry on that form and we'll finish on 39, which would be one point better than last season.

We are only just halfway through the season. Abandoning all hope when we're 16th and have that much left to play is pretty extreme.

It doesn't say much for our scouting frankly, because anybody who watched the USMNT or even some of his gaffes in the MLS could've seen he had mistakes in him and couldn't kick the ball at all. How it's turned out is not shocking. Even Chicago, who is not a pro scout, said this when we were linked with him. I think his reputation and value inflated considerably as a result of a very very good penalty saving record, and by virtue of being at a big club with a track record of selling reserve goalkeepers who have gone on to be good.

  • 30 Jan 2024, 10:53 p.m.

Just got back. I agree that felt like a Cooper performance. The atmosphere went to shit after about two minutes when it was clear just how little of the ball we'd see. It was all quite dull really. Arsenal are a very good side but i think I'd have liked Yates in there, especially with Sangare away.

Positives - we kept it respectable. Taiwo is back. Danilo has a decent game. Murillo continues to impress.

I think we are technically a better side than last year, with more goals in us. What I'm not sure yet is if we've got the fight / spirit that we had last year (on the pitch, in the dugout or in the crowd).

I really think the points deduction is having big effect. Players, crowd, management know whatever we do we are likely down.

(Out of interest when is the actual deduction amount known? Is it at a point when the panel will know how much to deduct to likely send us down?)
