I used to run every other evening after being sat at my desk all day. Was quite comfortable at 10k, enjoyed it and it was great for my mental health. Very much solo runner. I would take my ipod and listen to a couple of albums.
But I have completely fallen off the waggon, havent run for 4 month or so and just have a complete mental block to putting my trainers on. I cant find any motivation to do it even though I know the benefits. Any suggestions as to how to find the spark to run again?

I stopped running a few years ago and couldn't get back into the habit no matter how much I tried, and what has finally worked is discovering I love lifting - that got me back in a fitness mindset, which in turn made me want to do cardio, which has got me running again.

So my purely anecdotal advice would be to try a few other different fitness things, see what grabs you, and maybe that will reignite the spark to run.

Diarise a slot for a run in the next few days when you know you'll be available and then force yourself to do it when the time comes.
Without the pressure to fulfil the event you've diarised you may never get off your arse to do it. After doing it once, you might just find it's easier next time, and before you know it you've formed a habit which is pretty much what it's all about.
    Works for me anyway.

Thanks and its sound advice, except I know the first three or four runs are awful before you can get any enjoyment. Thats a mental hurdle I just cant get over

This is me about every 2 months as i'm all or nothing. My usual thing to get myself back on it is to go out without a watch and just do something slow, then I feel better for it having been out. Then the next time I'll put my watch on a discover just how gone to shit things are, but I will have got myself back in the habit at this point.

I switched from the occasional run a few years ago. Knees and ankles were starting to hurt in ways that didn’t feel like exercise soreness.
Bought a rower and row at least 20 minutes two or three times a week.
I use my watch with Apple fitness (I know, boo hiss) which was a present as an upgrade on a Garmin I barely used. The way it’s sort of gamified the whole thing has kept me up with it for over a year now. Yoga in the morning, strength or core in the evening.
Not a patch on the amount that people on here are talking about but a lot more than the next to nothing I’ve done in the past.
Unfortunately, my back has started acting up (herniated disc I’ve had for a couple of decades) so mornings are a frozen hell at the moment. Makes my morning yoga that bit more challenging.

I have an incredibly negative internal monologue which tells me how shit I am. I have 2 strategies for running. First is I try and run with friends. If I am meeting then at 7am, I have to turn up therefore the run happens and I cannot prevaricate. If I am running by myself (with the dogs) I have to have a play list or podcast. It has a white noise effect on my addled brain and shuts out the "voices". This accompanied Sundays half. Quite a lot of newish stuff on it. open.spotify.com/playlist/5LhutSEhAxvceZacrdgasG?si=d1950f584d904c5e

We had kebabs last night. No running was involved, though I did do 45 minutes on the exercise bike.

It was from a shop nearby where they have basically rebranded kebabs as a health food. Well played.
