Also done... again.
I've done a few half marathons over the years and always been absolutely dying at the end of them, so I really don't know what I'm doing signing up, but every year I do.
Two 100km rides in the past 7 days, with an average of 18.4 mph for today's ride, and 545 total miles for May. Also now the lightest have been in 5 years , still a ways to go but solid an improvement none the less. Happy with all of that.
23 miles today. Average speed 4.27 miles per hour.
That's on a bike.
(four pubs)
MAMIL!
(Good job, bud.)
Ironically because of the arthritis in my knees, playing football (which I still l love to do) is incredibly painful at times), weights don’t bother me at all. The knees are because of 4 surgeries inflicted from said football. My Vo2 max is fair which for me is not optimal because I used to be incredibly fit in that aspect. Having said that l, have an Oura Ring which now measures biological age by measuring cardiovascular output and even though my running around compared with what it was is none existent I am actually 2 years younger than my physical age according to technology. (I know, I know),,, which if true is amazing due to work and less than optimal sleep. (Five hours a night if I am lucky). This is due to work and sleep apnea. The sleep apnea is ironically due to football as I have bashed in sinuses and a floppy Eustachian tube probably from being smacked in the face from footballs all my life. The deviated septum could be fixed (the success rate is a bit shit at 50%) but the floppy tube would require major surgery and I don’t want that.
So the weights and the constantly being on my feet 14 hours a day keeps me young. Other clients and the wifey have the same ring and their biological age are on the + side of things so I am Doing well all things considered so weights really are fabulously beneficial to you.
Having said that, I want to participate in sport even though I turn 54 on Monday (which kind of freaks me out), and I have been inspired by Muswell and his biking achievements.
So we are biking today and hopefully get a great routine at least until winter. The knees can handle it even though they pop due to the patella’s occasionally sliding sideways and not up and down due to lack of meniscus.
If ironically I don’t exercise, I find it hard to concentrate and have a tough time relaxing. I guess this is the fast paced world of the USA that I live in.
Chicago: In for the duration .
I'd be in jail for manslaughter.
Well you are a weirdo anyway so it’s not improbable that you aren’t wanted anyway. I start work on average at 530/6am in Lincoln Park which is a 30 minute drive from our house and finish on average 8pm at night. I get paid per client. I am very in demand which is both a blessing and a curse because I am constantly knackered because of it. I do over a 3rd of all business and get paid well for it but don’t have a salary. We bought a house last summer for $500,000. We love it but it requires payment and Wifey’s business took a huge nosedive. The lack of sleep is due to eating late and getting up early and the sleep apnea. My job is a necessity not a joy. Do I like it? ( I have had much much worse), not always but it pays very well considering.
I plan to retire in 8 years if I live that long.
Chicago: Grinding out results.
About to drive to Bangor, Maine ( 4 1/2 hour drive from Mus Towers) for my first bike race. Taking part in the Hincapie Maine event, 53 miles and just over 3,000 feet of climbing.
Riding with two friends so won’t be focused on my time just getting used to riding in such an event.
May have to unfollow Shady on Strava if I don’t get a like after completing this one.
Good luck and don't die.
Signed up to do Mr Berry's Beer Run in September. Somewhat ambitiously checked the box for the 25K. Best get training.
Beer run? Is this like a bike ride, without the bike?
Somewhat. It's a cross country race with pubs as checkpoints.
Like the Otley run? When I did that there was no running. I liked it.
