I went for my first run in ~5 or 6 months (since a little bit of ankle/heel/foot chaos).

I did 10k as 2x 5k with a 5 minute breather at the turnaround. My moving time was 61 minutes and I'm actually pretty pleased/relieved with that.

(I think I had got down to ~54 minutes for 10k before breaking myself.)

Over the past couple of months I've got myself back on the rowing machine, albeit a bit sporadically. I'm a big fan of cardio when I can but since piling on some timber running isn't my friend so this has provided a low impact solution. Their online logbook post a workout of the day which is a mix of time trials, interval and HI stuff so gives a bit of variety. I've actually got one of the machine but been finding it easier to go to the gym.

One day I'll learn to do weights, I promise.

I run preferably 3 times a week. Partly for fitness and partly to try and keep my head in better shape. The endorphins really does help. I see a PT once a week and should go to the gym seperately. But rarely do. I mean to get some more discipline in my exercise regime but I'm not a disciplined person. All in all I'm not as tubby as I once was and much less bleak.

I've done two 'spin classes' in the last week. They're ok. Whilst good for my aerobic side of things, I wonder if I'm being a bit silly in that I cycle alot anyway, so I should probably work on other things.

I've been to one spin class in my life as I was invited by the then-future Mrs Simon. The instructor was Carmel the social worker from Eastenders (or, actually, the actress who played her - she didn't do it in character). I was very nearly sick afterwards.

That’s okay. I don’t really relish the idea of having to take down a roided up Ingo on the rampage. I think the carnage would be too much considering you would be quoting from Top Gun whilst overflexing and trying to bugger a swan. Stick to what you are doing. You will be fine.

This is exactly me. And in addition I am consulting Russ on here who has provided me with a personalised running schedule. And joking aside I have actually followed his advice!

It makes total sense that you ask a phone salesman for help rather than someone who actually does this for a living. I salute your naivety.

I have been to double your spin classes in my life.

  • 10 May 2023, 4:41 p.m.

To be fair, a) it's not my advice, it's a pretty standard training model followed by millions of runners, and b) you do not run or train runners for a living, in fact you consistently decry running as anything other than a method of getting to a football. Asking you for advice on running is like asking Tricky for advice on fashion.

I'll have you know that I am an absolute trailblazer.

To be fair if you don’t run chances are you probably won’t get the football. Especially with the quality of passes over here. I have worked with many people who run marathons and triathlons. In fact some of them have been my clients for 20 years. So for the record before Art is bum hurt I was taking the piss as I couldn’t care less. I agree with you about tricky though.

    Confirmed.
Raggedy Clough jumpers will definitely come back in one day.

I think calling it a jumper is a bit unfair. It's more of a comfort blanket.
