I just saw that Critchley was moaning about the integrity of the competition being compromised because VAR was in use in the first leg and not the second. Not sure I'd go that far, but it does seem dumb.
I’m not sure it really matters. But I did enjoy the lack of VAR
If anything it’s in their favour. Most of the tie was played without VAR and we are used to playing with it.
The ref let a lot go. It was more like old school football. Much better for it.
As soon as it became obvious the ref was giving fuck all (and rightly so) there was a lot less looking for it and it got a bit crunchier, which was nice.
CHO seems to be getting flack he doesnt deserve. He was more or less right in front of where I was sat this week and was repeatedly ready for the ball but the pass either never came or was played behind him so the run was slowed. I also thought Tavares wasn't that great. Toffolo was a game changer at Blackpool. Less trickery, my authority. Very much a senior pro. And I saw Aguillera make a few passes that no one else in the team was going to execute. I'd happily drop young Brandon into the 10 with CHO left and Toffolo behind him. I cant see how we link up the attacking play otherwise.
Whereas in the ground, it seemed like he was giving fouls for a player standing in the general vicinity of the opposition.
