I forget precisely what the midfield situation was when we didn’t sign him.. post-Webb, pre-Keane? Can’t help but think Cloughie’s aversion to cowboy boots may have been a reasonable stance on footwear, but sub-optimal re. football.

Think it was the summer we sold Webb. Supposedly Clough had spent a lot of time at Leicester watching McAllister and really rated him (not surprising, he was really good, after all). Bought John Sheridan on the rebound and then never played him, as he preferred Parker in the middle, which caused much grumbling at the time.

Possibly. But accompanying that with "are you a poofter?" wasn't even considered winning charm back then.

I believe the other half of that quote was "...because we've already had one of those here before", which doesn't make it any better.

Seems like Dougie is in the running to be ManU's head of recruitment.

That season we had an embargo and he was here we recruited quite well all things considered I thought (Nelson, Pinillos, Ryan Mendes, Gary Gardner, Jonny Williams). We've certainly done worse when not under an embargo. Don't know if he had anything to do with it mind.

Selective when you don't mention permanent signings Matt 'rick-a-game' Mills or Jamie 'four-year contract' Ward.
Or loan deals for Kyle Ebecilio, Liam Trotter, Chris O'Grady.
    (Bojan Jokic was okay though).

I appreciated Dougie's job for us. Managed us through a tricky period, made us solid defensively and, though we weren't great to watch, at least we didn't go down which would have happened with a different manager.

Appreciated him as a player as well.

Likewise. We were not fun to watch then, but that was largely not his fault given that our scope for being something that we weren't, at that time, was very limited.

Mills and Ward were steady and O'Grady was ok from the bench. They did a job anyway as bargain bucket signings. I'm afraid I have no memory of either Ebecilio or Jokic whatsoever.

"Did a job" really depends on your definition of job for a Championship footballer.
    O'Grady - 15 starts, six sub appearances.
Jokic - 19 starts, one sub appearance.
Ebecilio made five appearances, got injured and then got ill. Still only 30, but last known playing in the fifth (amateur) tier of Dutch football.

Sounds like the 2nd book not going to be up to the standard of the first.

Court enforced memory loss is a bitch.
