Who would have thunked it - in the final against Spain and Harry Kane is joint top scorer in the tournament.

    Best players in the tournament.

Watch out for Mister Brobbey. Is Noel Edmondsh the Dutch manager?

Second half of the first half is probably the best I've seen England play in a tournament game.

Did a Euro bracket for a friend who knows nothing about football but is in their office pool. To my surprise I had England going to the final, which they lose to Spain. I have us beating Slovakia, Switzerland and Romania to get there.

I think we have more talent than the Netherlands or Italy, and we're fortunate that the two best teams so far are in the other half of the draw, but yeah. It's fairly optimistic.

Turns out I knew a bit more than I was giving myself credit for. I got 7 of the 8 winners from the R16 right, 2 of the 4 QFs, and both of the SFs. A Spain win on Sunday and she'll probably come close to winning her pool.

Did you have a bet on Kane being top scorer too?

Apparently there is, for me, a point at which being deeply dull becomes profoundly irritating.

We probably wouldn’t be in the final if Cripple Kane was still on. He can take penalties but that is about it. I was crying out for Ollie Watkins. Someone heard me and he scored a great goal after running into space, turning the defender and a great finish. Proper centre forward play.

Was a penalty. Dumphries caught him with his studs.

Anyway, be brave in the final or lose to Danny Olmo who is a much better striker than donkey legs nowadays.

    Chicago: Hopeful.

Anyway Netherlands should have had multiple penalties awarded against them for Memphis Depay's headband embroidered with his squad number.

Ive particularly enjoyed seeing players like Guehi and Mainoo be completely at home at international level. We have a rich vein of talent that hopefully the next manager will capitalise on.

Very bored of this sort of thing: x.com/bmeado9/status/1811322577018597832

Women's football is a different sport. When people say "England haven't won a major tournament since 1966", no-one points out that "well, actually" we won the rugby world in 2003 and the ODI WC in 2019. Sorry but the default is mens football - that is, by far, the most popular sport in the country and outside other context, that's what we're talking about.

So I wouldn't hold your breath on that capitalising happening.

Despising all this national hysteria, with every media outlet and channel spouting gibberish about, and undying love for, football. Even Radio 4 FFS.

Bring back the old days, I say, when Thatcher told the world that football fans were the scum of the earth. In 1980, I first worked in a London ad agency. Forest were champions of Europe but of my 60-odd colleagues, only two were football fans. Me and a Dutch feller who supported Ajax. Everybody else followed rugby (or rugger), cricket and tennis. This annoyed me at the time. But I actually dislike the “we’re all footy fans here” bollocks even more. This is my game, not yours. Fuck off.
