No, I'm enjoying it. Feels like quite a few people have got themselves into the mindset of wanting the hammer to fall so they can say "I told you so". It's not the prettiest football and we should be better than this, but it's got lots of energy and Slovenia aren't just supposed to roll over because we're the mighty England.

Chic's stellar unheard of scouting pick appears to think the idea is to pass to a blue shirt, Kane looks like a competition winner in the final third, and Trippier is just in stinking form. Saka not having a great day, but has plenty of money in the bank. The rest of them playing well and carrying those four. Foden especially good. The Bell not ringing yet.

Add Rice to your 4. He seems to have lost the ability of passing to his own man.
There's not a lot of kick in this side. Old deadlegs is one of the slowest top flight footballers I've seen going on to a ball, and doesn't stretch the play. When he drops to play the ball it's three beats instead of two.
So we end up carrying the ball, instead of letting the ball do the work at a pace that can't be tracked.
I think Mainoo is making a bit of a difference. He moves a lot and plays a lot of neat one touch passes which don't generally go astray, and he has upped our general tempo. The Slovenians are defending well.
