I used to have a friend who was Swiss. And also black. Which was a very rare thing in Switzerland. He had many tales to tell of racism directed at him by Swiss officials, and repeated attempts to prevent him, a Swiss citizen, from entering the country of Switzerland.

I am enjoying the punchiness of all the FYRs…Serbia threatening to leave as a result of Croatian and Albanian chanting “Death to the Serb.” Flares, stuff being thrown on the pitch, off field violence, racist chanting. And now a 95th minute equaliser for Serbia v Slovenia…
My Croatian colleague says that there's really very little bad blood between them and the Serbs, but that the Albanians really hate them.
Serbs and croats have always been friends (certainly away from the balkans), before, after, and even during the war. Don't underestimate how many of these things are largely (geo) political, and fuck all about what individuals think or want.
Albanians (and later bosnian's) are largely thought of as a muslim beachhead in europe, and because of the long history of the region regarded as a common enemy.
