Maybe but he wouldn’t have got near that volley at the end of the first half that Casteels tipped round the post ;)

Belgium to finish 3rd then knock us out as a fastest loser in the R16.

If this gets chalked off for handball I think Belgium can feel very hard done by.

Fun result and Belgium weren't good enough to make their pressure and possession count, but VAR properly stiffed them. That handball was a complete nothingburger.

Very interesting game. Run versus kick. Run wins. Just.

You can't use your hands. I've long said there should be two levels of punishment. Intentional a direct free kick, unintentional an indirect. If you want to use your hands, go play rugby. If you gain advantage from a hand ball (and he did, it stopped the ball running across to the defenders control) then it should be a free kick.

Of course the interpretation of the laws are a complete shambles in this regard.

I don't think that the ball changed direction. The fact that they used a snicko to prove it was a handball shows how minor it was.

But still a hand ball. Do you think you should be able to use your hands in football? Even if you are not a goalkeeper in your area?

There’s a difference between “using your hands” and the ball hitting your hand and it making no difference to the play.

Alternative thought. If you are not allowed to touch the ball with your hands, part of the skill of being a footballer is to not let that happen, at risk of censure.

The last thing football needs is another catastrofuck like 'some offsides are okay' with 'some handballs are okay'. It's already far too much about the officials and hiding behind an opaque rulebook to exercise under influence on games.

    I would argue.

You can't touch the ball with your hands. If you do, you shouldn't benefit from it. Otherwise we are not dealing with football any more. It's just ball.

It's already well established that if you are unintentionally in an offside position but being so does not impact the play, a goal will stand. I see no issue with applying the same principle here.
