There's been some good running about from the developing nations.

There's been a noticeable paucity of elite level skill, top teams in top form, the best players at their best.

Probably the best game was a 0-0. I forget which one.

Austria were just good old fashioned chase and hustle which I enjoyed. The passing it sideways until someone falls asleep (usually me) less so.

Did you watch France v Spain?

It was a good game but they were both pretty scrappy in parts. This tournament reminds me a bit of the south Africa world cup, although nobody is as fluent as Germany were in that. Not even Spain. There also isn't really any player who has stormed the tournament. Yet anyway.

Me? The later parts after we played. Was a bit like watching a tyre with a slow puncture.

Me too. In the sense that the vuvuzela World Cup pretty much killed off my interest in football for a good couple of years afterwards. This tournament is sending me on a similar trajectory.

I too don't really care about England winning or losing.

I put it down to the country being such a shit hole that I have no interest in anything connected to it.

Saka and Trippier as wing backs strikes me as optimistic. Reducing the impact of one star while maximising the limitations of a weakness.

I'll be very happy to be wrong. A more central Foden is definitely good though.

OK. So, the cagey bit when the Spanish were holding on to their leave rather than the first half when they were phenomenal.

That was a very Forest 1st season back in the Prem goal to concede.

Fuck. Hell of a strike but I feel like Pickford could have done better.

Detail errors: Bellingham (slow to offload the ball in the middle ending in a contested ball), 2 from Trippier (a stupid offside, not being up with a press), Foden/Kane making the same pressing run, Rice waving a foot instead of contesting and getting his body across.

Result: They are able to compete in midfield, able to get out easy, and winning the ball high.

Summary: One down inside the first ten.

Kane has been very dangerous in last 10 mins. And now he's won a pen.

Golden boot smacks it over the bar but gets a penalty.
