Brilliant officiating in the Georgia game. None of this minor contact, throw yourself to the ground, get a free kick, modern ballet crap. Level playing field for two very different style teams made for an excellent game.
A reminder that football can be fun. Not just stop start choreographed wankery.
I know what you mean, but I'm not totally certain there was dive in that. The defender was pulling out, there wasn't a lot of contact. But you don't need a lot for it to really hurt when it's square on over the top flush on your ankle.
What there definitely was on view was loads of 'touch-collapse' 'touch-launch', 'drag leg into touch' "fouls" rightly waved away. And a booking for an attempt to gain an advantage by being a cheating diving cunt.
I'm not saying it was perfect, but if every game was reffed like that it would drag the standard up and improve the game.
I dare say the powers that be wouldn't like that. They prefer refs dipping in giving endless soft free kicks, or waving them away, as bias demands.
Yeah, for "some reason" India's semi final venue was determined before the tournament started, while everyone else's wasn't. India do go to the final if there's no result in the semi-final. I assume, notionally, because they have the better record in the tournament (England have lost twice, while India have won every game aside from one non result.)
Yes, because they topped their super 8 group.
But it’s bollox because there was a spare day built in for the first semi in case of bad weather, but not for the second. You won’t be surprised to learn that it’s all about money, and in particular Indian TV.
In general I'd much prefer it if we got away from the players going down at the slightest touch and for the most part I think the officiating in general has been pretty good in the tournament so far. It's been a far cry from week on week shit that was going on in the Premier League.
