My heart cannot take it! Fucking VAR!

That was way way harder than it could have been.

It’s not over yet as goal difference could stilll cunt us. MGW is both brilliant and profligate.

He gave away the second goal but his touch for Barry was brilliant.

Who is player of the season ? Serge? Barry? MGW.

Fester have Scouse and Geordie’s. Their only hope is the last game. Evergone really put the cat amongst the pigeons. Twats!

We need help from others abs absolutely need a point from three games.

    Aaarfh Brentford you cnuts.

Soton are down. Who has the conjones to survive?

    Chicago: Experiencing palpitations.

Feels like this is probably quite important.

First target for the season was beating Derby's record. I think I originally had staying up as target number 2 (although "being competitive" would have been better.
I'm inclined to think that "not bottom" is also an excellent second target and we're just about there.

I also reckon that bottom 5 table shows that Cooper is doing a heck of a job. Any worse there and we'd already be gone. And we've definitely got the potential to do better.

What, the baldy chap? Yeah, definitely quite important.

The stats just tell me that our rivals are likely better against the teams they are plying than we are against the teams we are playing.

The goal difference is worrying me. It's definitely going to go to the last weekend, but trying to enjoy the ride.

Well done to the Forest YouTube channel. Clearly a game warranting 2 minutes of highlights and ideal to put links to other videos over Ward-Prowses penalty.

That was so tense. Seen a lot of chuff written about the atmosphere (presumably by people who've read about it elsewhere but haven't been Trentside themselves), but I thought it was one of the poorest this season. Very loud MoK, but then flat early on as Saints dominated. It was buoyed by the goals, but then (understandably) nervy and tense for the rest of the game once Saints got their first.
Danilo named sponsors' MotM. I can sort of see why (goal, the pass for the first goal), but he wasn't. I thought Mangala was excellent. Started like a poor man's Freuler (lots of sideways passing) but grew into the game and was doing all the destructive stuff Yatesy is so good at. The best game I've seen him have. And Felipe was just immense. Again. So good with the ball at his feet (took his "goal" like an accomplished striker), but excellent in the tackle and in the air as well. One of the best centre-halves I've seen in the Garibaldi.
MGW gave the ball away far too much for me (and I'm not sure I like him stuck out on the left).
I thought Favia for Southampton was excellent as well (apart from the dive - not sure why VAR didn't invite Michael Oliver (who had an excellent game) to the monitor to review it).
Three points, confidence booster, now if we can get a result at Chelsea...

Yes, I thought Mangala had a great game last night. You're right on the atmosphere as well.

  • 9 May 2023, 8:25 a.m.

Agreed but I think the point we miss is that a moderate and tense atmosphere at the City Ground is still much better than most other grounds in the same circumstances.

Didn't think Felipe's distribution was that great as there were quite a few instances where he just booted it to them under no pressure (although that may have been the plan as we are mostly more of a threat on transition).

Navas's distribution wasn't the best but he was given pelters around me for a goal kick that went out of play while we had Yates and Felipe waiting to return that was obviously intentional. I don't think he's big enough to play in goal in the premier league though and invites what kept happening from corners.

It's a little frustrating that at the end of the season, we are losing at least 2 of a very nice back 5 (Lodi and Navas definitely going, as I recall?).

  • 9 May 2023, 8:29 a.m.

We have an option on Lodi, although I'm not sure he's worth £26m. I'd much rather keep Henderson than Navas. For a start he's younger and could be our goalkeeper for the next five years or so, he's bigger, which helps a lot and, I think, he's the better all-round keeper at this level today. All depends on staying up though.

  • 9 May 2023, 8:35 a.m.

Navas is apparently open to staying - his family seem happy - but no way we can afford his wages.
Aurier also open to staying if we stay up (apparently an option on his contract).
Lodi is an odd one. Obviously a very good player, but doesn't show it consistently enough for me, plus a bit injury prone. Toffolo has grown into the EPL since looking very shaky at the start. Plus the mythical Omar might well be fit. But how long is he going to need to get up to EPL pace?

(nice to see Biancone there last night joining in with the celebrations as well)

  • 9 May 2023, 8:40 a.m.

I thought we'd ruled Lodi out, but it might just have been a rumour. Yes, I prefer Hendo to Navas, but I'm commenting on a stable defence.

Interesting that the owner was Trentside yesterday, given it was the "Mother of all Battles" (Olympiakos v Panathinaikos) in Greece.

  • 9 May 2023, 9:16 a.m.

A quick look at the league table over there, and it isn't that surprising, their season is over.

  • 9 May 2023, 9:20 a.m.

Happy to keep Lodi if it keeps Danilo happy. Skateboard has said he is here for new adventures and the other Brazilians have to find their own way. Danilo could go all the way to Champions League football - for a guy who was meant to be a DM he's a pretty consequential player for creating and scoring goals. Danilo + MGW + Brennan + Awoniyi on their day would cost a lot of money in the market today.

This season we have just about created our strongest first choice 11. Next season if we stay up we can have players to either upgrade this first 11 or have a stronger squad. Some we can finally let go (Arter, Cafu, Taylor), others we may be paying to not play very much (Wood? Shelvey?)

I imagine we could still spend a bit as we would have two years of EPL money minus our £170m(?) spend this year for FFP. Checks notes £105 million permitted losses over three years. Yeah i think Marinakis can still throw a few more darts if he feels like it.
