    Audiobooks are not reading.

Agreed. A book read by someone else is their interpretation of it. They place their own emphasis on the words and give their own style to the speech of characters. When I read, I put my own emphasis on words and hear the characters' voices in my own way. An audiobook is like having your mother read you a bedtime story.

The only real exception to this is "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" original radio play. This predated the book and so is a rare example of a play being adapted to a book that works in both formats. Of course, when I read the books the characters' tones are lifted from the play, but it makes perfect sense in this case.

Nothing will ever trump reading for me; I do use a Kindle because I would be overflowing with books otherwise. I read something like 130 books last year, and I'm far too lazy to get rid of any. I'll spend at least two hours reading every day, often more if I really get into a book.

Somehow both my daughters are big readers of real books. Surprising (or not) how few kids are these days. We even had a doctor comment on it in a followup letter after we took our youngest in to have something checked at the Children's Hospital.

What the ones what I wrote? The eldest read one, yeah. But she'll read any old fantasy shit tbh.

She is keen on 'dystopian romantasy'. We have plenty of the former, not so much of the latter. Apart from Russ who maybe ticks both boxes.

I am close to finishing Van Halen Rising. About the early years of the band through their first album/major tour.
    I am enjoying it.

Since I am going on holiday where most of the stuff will be a health spa, wellness centre, I am bringing two extra books with me to Montenegro,. Already Safe Houses by Colin Barrett is amusing but I am adding to them with Rendezvous with Rama and Project Hail Mary.

Rendevouz with Rama is a classic though I am finding that era of SF a bit dated these days.

I think I read they are making a film of it?

If this isn’t irony, it’s been in development hell for decades, iirc, and occasionally gets another run out only to collapse again.

Denis Villeneuve, (the Dune director), is the latest to be adapting Rendevous with Rama. Should be interesting.

After reading Say Nothing and seeing the film, I flew through Safe Houses which was well written but a whole bit of nothing, I went full gonzo with The Terminal List. Written by Jack Carr a former seal who looks like he can chew your flesh off before you can even reach for a weapon this is a highly entertaining and completely outlandish revenge thriller about a Navy Seal who is set up to a fall after his troop is ambushed in Afghanistan. Totally outlandish and not totally believable it was highly entertaining. So much so Amazon made a tv show out of it with Chris Pratt. I will probably watch it. I burned through it and am now in need of something a bit more cerebral. I have 6500 books to choose from so I should be alright.

Is that what the new TV series on Apple is based on?
