    They already are.
They do have a strong squad, but I'm not sure how many of our first-teamers I'd swap for theirs.

According to MotD on Saturday, he’s just signed a new contract at Everton. Not happening.

Steve Hodge was really talking-up Jesus's role in that goal. Saying that his near-post run to take the defender away was really clever, and left a bunch of space in the centre for Gibbs-White to run into (albeit completely unmarked).

I love Hodgey on Radio Nottingham. Although I don't think anything was picked up on air, he apologised at full-time when a Spurs fan started arguing with him and he briefly broke off the co-commentary to give him a load back. You could hear a bit of panic in Fray's voice before Hodge reappeared and explained his temporary absence, saying he 'had to a put a Spurs fan in his place' and 'sorry for the fruity language'.

    What a legend.

I enjoyed that Taiwo DID score using his shins again.

I’m not ruling out a new manager bounce for Spurs but they finished 17th last season and were crap under Ange, they were then crap under Frank (good manger before there) and have been crap under Tudor (a quick fix specialist). So it’s far from a given they will suddenly respond well and start winning.

I still think Spurs will get of it. That said, I don’t give a shit what happens to them or who their manager is.

I’m only worried about us. Last time I got optimistic after a 3-0 win vs. Spurs, we went on to lose 4 in a row with some of the most abject performances for years. We did not take the chance to drag other teams into it (esp Fulham who were only a point ahead of us at the time). One swallow does not make a summer. 6+ points from the next three seems critical…

I bet a lot of you are coming round to the Mathematical Certainty Principle now, eh?

(Yesterday was my day off….miserable git back on duty)

Derby's is technically still running, so, in the unlikely event of them ever getting promoted again, they could still extend it beyond whatever Spurs (who'd come straight back up) manage.

  • 23 Mar 2026, 8:25 a.m.

Note. Those who were concerned that playing ninety plus extra and pens mid-week would hurt us, were unnecessarily concerned. As long as you structure game minutes into the overall training plan (ie, not much training), it can be positive to still be playing for something, rather than just focusing on the grim grind of relegation.

Using the mathematical certainty principle, Pale arse could still go down - and they definitely wont.

This weekend's favourable results mean that the only bottom 6 team in better form than us across the last 6 games is... Wolves. West Ham have the same 6 points as us.

  • 23 Mar 2026, 9:08 a.m.

Don’t be daft. Not beating Burnley would be pretty unforgivable, but anything from the other two counts as good work. Six points would be an outstanding return. Five would be very good. Par is three and a half.

Guess what the next premier league fixture is, on the Friday night before everyone else plays.

(I don't really believe in form at the best of times but when there's a three week break, when so much can change in terms of players' fitness, especially not.)

Yesterday was a very pleasant day indeed. Watched the match in a pub in Todmorden. A chum of mine was DJ ing at the Golden Lion later on. A quite fun and bizarre place. A good pub in this small West Yorkshire town in the hills that gets legendary DJs and bands to play. Close connections to Andy Weatherall (RIP), Dave Clarke etc. And I have friends here as well. A place I think Mid Life Crisis Russ would enjoy very much. However, I digress.
Was watching the match with chums and a bloke who is a Bradford City fan who fucking hates Spurs like all decent people. He was as delighted each time we put the ball in the back of net as we were. His view was that Archie Gray was by far the best player on the pitch. Would love to get him if they go down. But also thought we were well worth the win. Just before Big T came on, I said he scores off his shin or his arse and lo and behold....
Wonderful that all of a sudden we have 2 goal scoring strikers..
Just what we needed prior to the break.

Spurs, of course, also played on Wednesday and looked like they ran out of steam in the second half. They had eight starters in common between the two teams compared to our two.

Also, weren't you previously arguing in favour of the "toughen them up by running them into the ground" man?

I think it's manageable to an extent and hopefully the players are getting used to the extra load by this stage anyway. And, fortunately, both sides will be the same boat next time we play, with similar trips on the Thursday, although Porto are probably a bit better than Bologna.

No. I was in favour of ensuring that their physical levels were commensurate with executing our style of play, and the need to play two games a week.

Where athletic potential is underdeveloped it is not uncommon to undertake a training block to ensure that the levels are achieved, and this underlying fitness can reap benefits for subsequent performance....even if it's hard work that nobody really fancies in the short term.

    Which is subtly different.

Do I think that the additional running that a previous manager might have made the players do has led to some benefits? Yes, I do.

If that's true, I wonder whether it's because he's being paid by us until the end of next season. Maybe more money could still convince him?
