Amazing that we survived 13 corners.
Amazing that that is amazing.
Amazing that IIRC Spurs didn't stick a single one beyond the back post where we are notoriously weak.
Maybe Pereira is the long lost lovechild of Nuno and Stevie Cooper's Mum. Stupid and a bit previous perhaps, but it feels like we've got our club back.
We seem to have found our mojo away from home but I would like to see us put in a performance (with goals) at home before relaxing and enjoying the rest of the season.
I only saw the last hour, but the thing that struck me was that (apart from the odd burst of energy and intent) it was like a pre-season friendly. Spurts (very apt on this showing) had terrible decision making and a lack of directness. If there was an opportunity to slip a dangerous channel ball, or get off a shot, they missed it. Settling on second phase shots that were easily defended, or shelling hopeful balls into bad areas. Modern footballers are often a bit rubbish at kicking the football, if they don't have short range shuttle balls to give and go off, and this lot we played today were absolute crap (apart from Djed's mum's lad, who was on fire as we got into the ground).
I don't get the jeopardy. As soon as our first goal went in, we were never losing that today. We just set up in a bog standard defensive shape, and they didn't have a fucking clue....even when they got between the lines. Couple of very good saves from Sels, I get, but there was never any real consistent pressure likely to build to a goal. In defense we played against something as close to IFC standard that you will see at this level in the modern game. Take the full back down the line, cut back a cross, have fucking acres around the penalty spot to find a finish. We weren't very good, often kicking the ball away parks football style...but we had far too much for this shower of shit today.
On this showing spurts are absolutely going down, and are the classic: decent on paper, shit on grass.
Nice pint of Hophead in the elmhurst, but ridiculously lively - took about half an our to calm down. The complete opposite to the team who took half an hour to mount a flaccid probe, before shelling the cross out for a goal kick.
Honourable mention for Michael Oliver. Thought that was a very well refereed game, he let it flow well and didn't buy anything either team tried to sell.
There were some definite positives - particularly around players collapsing as someone was running next to them, to buy a decision. I would definitely like to see more of this sort of approach, requiring players to be stronger, and removing 'physical presence nearby' 'fouls' from the game - because it ruins it as a spectacle.
On the other hand there were some of the normal random decisions generation, while the timekeeping, and keeping play continuous, was a complete joke (not against us, just bad). I think he's just terrible at making decisions, but luckily today not that much needed doing.
I was scathing when people talked about our GD being an extra point v West Ham after we beat them but 9 goals better with 7 games left is quickly reaching that point. Very unlikely now that we finish level on points and GD (or goals scored) tips it in their favour.
No win since December 28th, only two home victories all season and the only club in the PL not to win this year. I think they're third in the table for most games since start of calendar year without a win (13). Derby, of course, lead that particular table by some margin.
They genuinely can. 13 games without a win and seven to play. Derby's record is 18. The question is, do we want anyone to take away one of Derby's records?
