This board works best around categories to some degree.

The main Threads view has everything in there, pinned posts at the top, and all other threads by most recent post. I think this is ideal, what do you think?

The advantage with categories, is that by tagging threads, you can (in the category view) quickly review threads of that type (eg. Forest Match for a match day thread). Subject to how they are categorised (checking ingo's mischief around this might be a role that moderators could take up, if the useless bastards feel like doing something?)

So there could be a complex matrix of categories, that allowed easy refinement, or maybe not very many to just broad brush stroke quick sort forest, football, general discussions, or the media...or some such differentiation.

Then there's the colours. Does everyone prefer to live in a monochrome world like @Russ ?

Discuss these things while you have the chance to, and make your views known, and then I'll decide what might work best.

I like the greys better personally, the multi colours looked rather childish and fussy (although I'd not worked out yet whether there was some colour coded point to them)

Yeah now I've looked properly (bad me) I see there was actually a point to them and allowed you to easily see match based threads vs gossip based threads (for example). I prefer the look of the grey, but now I've realised the purpose I'll get back up on the fence.

The colours were really a test, and pretty haphzard...but there was a sort of logic to some (forest:r ed, match threads: green {they are played on grass})

...but it was not comprehensive...and people should weigh in with their views.

The grey is much more pleasing to the eye, or at least much less offensive. Personally, if I can't turn categories off I'd just have one and put everything into it - it seems like an unnecessary exercise in filing that no one will ever use, but I could be completely wrong on that. I imagine Jim will definitely disagree given his love for data management.

That's the threads category. Everything goes into that.

The category categories are for useful quick sub-division.

Sure. But it's just unnecessary clutter that especially on mobile makes it look a mess.

    Read me annoyingly well.

I like the categories .... I'm not bothered whether they are coloured or grey. Slight preference for grey.

I prefer the grey. Dark colours might work too.

In principle I am good with having categories. In practice it remains to be seen whether there will be enough content to make it a feature with much utility.

I expect it will be arbitrary on a user level to say the least. The fucking moderators could actually do something though.

What happened to your previously held immutable principles that moderators should not interfere with posts and threads unless absolutely necessary?

  • trickylens

Agreed. I don't mind them doing the filing.

You mean other than delete threads?

This is definitely one of the hazards of volunteer labour.

The current board uses 'boards' It has a number of boards mostly with nothing in them, certainly with little changing. They take up space at the index page, and look shit.

You assign a category....if it's not a category much used, who cares. There will be a default category, you don't have to do much. If you choose to make a category attribution is becomes meaningful.

Apart from some people not liking the visible tags, I can't imagine what possible problem there is.
