Can't find the American sports thread

As a point of general principle I don't like the NFL playing international games, but I do love having football at 9:30 in the morning.

In the grand tradition of picking teams that will be the death of me. The Chicago Cubs are in the playoffs and their starting pitcher has just broken his ribs. So that’s them buggered. And The New York Giants who have been terrible under the present management have decided to play their new rookie quarterback on the fourth game of the season because the head coach wants to save his job. Only problem. Regardless of quarterback the Giants have the worst offensive protection line in the league. The plan was to sit out the kid for the whole season to learn behind two well paid veterans. One of whom hasn’t even played. This week the Giants are playing the Chargers who have a very good defence and our new starting QB likes to run to get extra yards. I will be very surprised if his season isn’t cut short by injury today. I do like calamity teams.

Chicago: Fanatic.

There is no reason for this. Thomas is elite, and the rest are pretty decent individual players. It shouldn't be this bad.

I suspect the fact that Russ has never been able to throw over the middle and now also doesn't have the ability to scramble makes it easier for defenses to bracket outside receivers and let the front 4 pin their ears back. Dart will mean that opponents have to think about containment at least, I suspect the line will look better with the change of QB.

Well fuck. What do I know? Dabol is a genius. Although the Giants Defence won the game. Cam Skattebo is an absolute lunatic running back. He doesn’t run away from people. He runs at people. Both him and Dart are going to be very very injured by the end of the season but they are going to be fun to watch whilst they are still standing.

Giants win. I lose a bet. I am okay with that.

Chicago: Watching a victory this weekend.

Should probably enjoy today because Nabers tore his ACL, and that's a massive loss. Teams are going to put their #1 corner on Robinson, and no one is scared of Slayton and Olszewski.

I really liked JJ McCarthy coming out of college and it seemed like Minnesota was a good place for him to go with O'Connell's burgeoning reputation as a QB whisperer, but it doesn't seem to be working out quite that well. It doesn't help that Darnold is having an MVP season in Seattle either.

Well I have been getting huge entertainment from watching the New York Giants this year. For three quarters they cream everyone and then suddenly go all Ange Postebogloo. In the latest attempt to get us the number one draft pick we are up 10 points in the fourth quarter for the fifth time and have the chance to put points on the board which would have forced Detroit to get a touchdown with no timeouts. We don't and go for 4 th and 6th and cock it up.

Detroit then race down the field and with no time left on the clock kick a 59 yard field goal to tie the game. We then defer in overtime and give Detroit the ball who from their first play run 69 yards for a touchdown and basically win the game.

in other news though Jameis Winston is the most entertaining player in the league. Mad as a box of rocks but somehow comes up with some outrageous stuff followed by a pile of pudding. Catching his own touchdown was the height of hilarity. And yet we still lose.

At least we are not dull....

Chicago: Giant amongst men.

No way you get 1OA. Tennessee, New Orleans, Raiders and Jets are all worse teams than the Giants.

They are but we have conspired to losing way more than we should. This includes to the Saints ironically enough.

Chicago: Watching for the hell of it.

I was fairly vociferous at the time in saying that giving a quarter of the cap in salary to any player other than a QB is a terrible idea, and so it came to pass. It was more on the grounds that a QB is the only player guaranteed to be involved in every play when he's on the field rather than injury, but still. Parson is terrific, but two 1st round picks and $47M a year for a non-QB is bonkers.

Well after sitting through a shitshow of a season by my New York Giants, (hi Forest fans!), I was pleasantly surprised by how good the two playoff games were yesterday. I was at the game at Soldier field when my Giants team managed to squander a 10 point advantage with less than 4 minutes to go against Chicago (although I shouldn't be surprised because we broke an NFL record by losing after being up about 32 points against Denver with about 6:30 to go, which is almost impossible)....

Anyhoo.... The Bears have been coming back from the brink all season and have now managed it 7 times when seemingly dead and buried and they managed to be 18 points down to Tricky's Packers. (Full disclosure, had money on the pack the useless fucks..) and after Green Bay missed two field goals and an extra point, the Bears came storming back and won with less than a minute to go. Pretty electric. Not a fan of Bears fans as they are whiny cunts but the team is exciting this year. Pity, thought the Pack had it as the legacy was that the quarterbacks; Brett Favre won at 27. Aaron Rogers won at 27 and now Jordan Love who just turned 27 were on a path to glory again. Buggered it up. Down to kicking really. Anyway, great game.

in the other game, The Rams almost fucked it up against Carolina and that went down to the wire. I watched that game on delay too as work was in the way. As it always is.

Chicago: Having something to root for.

I may have to watch the Rangers game later. 12 goals appears in line with Sens unpredictable season so far....
