One of those actors who is immediately recognizable, but I would never be able to tell you his name.

He didn't have a big part (oo-er) and obviously played a bit of a knockabout character but still managed to stand out in a pretty strong cast. I guess he has done pretty well with My Family, the BT(?) ads and a Paradise double. He did seem like a nice chap.

Love Actually would be the first thing I'd associate him with. The least problematic part of that movie.

In a film of Richard Curtis fantasies, "if i go to America with this accent, January Jones and Kim from 24 (and someone else) will want to have sex with me instantly" seems pretty desperate.

Compared to Egg from This Life attempting to woo teenage Keira Knightley while she was in the process of marrying Chiwetel Ejiofor who was 10 years her senior, the Prime Minister abusing his power to fuck his secretary, or Mr Darcy trying to marry a poor housemaid despite not speaking a word of her language and therefore not having the first clue whether they were remotely compatible other than "phwooar I want to fuck her", I'd say the goofy Englishman going to America and immediately getting lucky because of his accent is definitely on the more innocent end of the scale.

You should, it's great. Charming holiday fun for all the family.

The Liam Neeson/Brodie-Sangster bit is OK, I think?

  • 29 Nov 2025, 9:10 p.m.

Liam Neeson story is fine, as is Martin Freeman's. Bill Nighy's is just about ok if you look past the fact that he's basically taken advantage of an abusive employer relationship for most of his career. Alan Rickman's is humdrum and grubby.

My family is Mrs Rave. Neither of us are film watchers. I'm sure we wouldn't hate it, but we'd rather watch some sort of crime murder mystery thing.
Although we are both Keira Knightly fans having worked with her 3 times. I did 2 shows at The Pinter with her. I remember being at stage door when she arrived for 1 of them and shook me warmly by the hand, which was nice. I was off whichever show of the 2 ran over Christmas but the rest of the backstage team invited the cast down into the crew room for Boxing Day secret Santa and mocktails and she happily sat on the floor having a marvellous time.
At some point Mrs Rave and I worked on a Sunday Concert called The People Speak www.imdb.com/title/tt1733300/
I ran radio mics, she Stage Managed. Huge cast. There had been some issue with Keira's script arriving. She turned up in the tech office just as Mrs Rave was finishing printing her script off.
'I just need to staple that together for you'.
'Oh give me the stapler and I'll do it'.
And Keira sat on the floor and stapled her script together.
She gets 4 thumbs up from us (oo-er).

I too am a big Keira Knightley fan, but sadly I have no experience of her work ethic. I should be so lucky.

Despite being a chronically shy kid and slightly star struck growing up I don't ever recall being shy / overwhelmed / whatever by meeting various famous people briefly in a professional capacity having been trained to be professional. I'll happily give credit to the nice people that I remember, even though they won't remember me at all.

For someone who clearly doesn't like the film, you have exceptional recall for the actors involved and the plotlines.

  • 29 Nov 2025, 10:48 p.m.

In case you're wondering other nice people on my nice people list include:
    Martin Shaw
    Anna Chancellor
    Mark Rylance
    David Suchet
    Richard Dreyfuss
    Claudie Blakley

I can't quite be arsed to post why or add more names tonight. I'm a bit of a lightweight these days. Alcohol wise and Calorie wise...

I get why people might see it that way, and I hate it as derivative, manipulative, mean-spirited, cobblers. With some good bits, and decent performances.
