If he's not the conductor maybe he's the driver.

Feels like we are getting close to the day when there's no academy players involved in the 20 match day squad. Only Worrall yesterday (presumably Yates was unavailable - didn't see it mentioned anywhere) and doesn't feel like anyone in the under 21s is pushing to getting in.

Clubs owned by people totally unconnected with the clubs, the community, or even the country....for reasons of prestige or financial. Match scheduling, ticketing, and even the structure of the competitions changed for the benefit of these external interests. Teams are bought not built now. If someone does well, player or manager, they get nicked by someone further up the food chain. The days of developing players and finding success through good management are over. Forest have not long had a top ranked academy, and they have recently come from the EPL, having not been in the top flight of english football for over twenty years....so that's lack of access to the top level prospects for over two footballing generations.

I get that you are merely commenting on the reality...but I find it hard to get past. "well, duh!".

Yeah it was more a lament for the current situation than an intended criticism.

For me the real issue is that the 'ship, and the disproportionate money at different levels of the game, has eliminated what was good about the english pyramid of professional football. I don't see that reversing in my lifetime. I'm in a lucky position, because I actually enjoy the execution of good football, and am not big on the tribal representative elements of it. But I do feel sorry for the traditional football fan, who has been completely mugged off. Even if they have in part done it to themselves.

I know Man Utd make a big thing of it - had an academy player in every matchday squad since 1937.
I think this season (possibly even Man City away) is the first time a Forest academy player has not actually been on the pitch for at least a decade, probably longer when you think of Wes, Darlow etc.

I think Nico should cover it.

Quotey thing didn't work again for some reason, but I was referring to the nickname requirement rather than any bollix about academy players

Do Man U count the likes of Garnacjo (so?) as an academy product. I think he technically is but when you are harvesting people into the academy from other continents I'm not sure it's quite the Wozza/Yatesy level of 'one of our own'.

Maybe but Rashford is local and is quite important for them.

Yes we know but Nico is dull and un talkback like.

    Haven’t you learnt anything?

Also a signficant number of people refer to Neco Williams as Nico.

I can't be held responsible for other people's poor spelling ;)

Speaking of Neco. Did he make the squad because Toff turning up was a massive surprise.

Did I detect a few digs at Brentford in Cooper's post-match interviews on MotD2 and Radio Nottingham? (Didn't watch the sky coverage.)

Mentions them returning 1000 tickets, talks about them being a set-piece team, "it's a much better point for us than Brentford".

First bit you could argue either way as a dig or not. Next two are just expressions of fact, aren't they?

I thought he seemed pretty pally with their gaffer, compared with most.
