We didn't strengthen the "team" either. We padded the squad, but if you want to progress, you improve on what you have. We signed back-ups.
Certainly, should have been looking to upgrade in goal and CF (I think everyone accepted Sels and Wood (and Elanga) overachieved last season), and new wingers (sold as an upgrade) have not worked out yet. Douglas Luiz looked like an upgrade on Sangare, but his injury problems were well known.

I don't think that's fair on Sels. We did need more firepower, and if he'd got the 3 or 4 more goals that his play has merited at times, we'd have been happy that Jesus had brought that.

When we got out of our half we looked ok. When we didn't, we didn't.
It also felt like we were playing for half time from around the 30 minute mark. -
Starting to sit in. We are inviting trouble. Schade and ootaroa (however you spell his name), are fast and running between the passing lanes.
Need to be a little smarter and more aggressive in midfield and push up to push them back. It was good for the first 20 then we reverted to type.
The warning signs are there. Can we capitalize on this lead.

Felt like the change of shape from Outtara replacing Damsgard unsettled us. Hopefully they can sort out at half time but I suspect it's going to be sit deep and boot 50 yard balls up to Jesus.

If Luiz is indeed on his way out, you'd assume there was a central midfielder incoming in the next few days?

We look decent here. Yes the home side, a goal down, have held possession and threatened (Duh!). We started great, scored a fantastic goal, and have been pretty comfortable.
I do get concerned that football fans discard all of their previous experience of watching football, and assume every game is going to be a fun-fest where the opposition are just run over. Let's be clear. That was a good performance, and we are in a great position at half time. Yes the other team are trying. Yes that's an inconvenience. TUP!
