Only the second time in Pep's managerial career a team has had more shots than his side in both first and second half. Last time was Real Madrid in 2009-10.
Also highest xG V City all season in first half.
Says a lot about how Forest and football have worn me down that I see this as depressing not uplifting.
Without the points deduction you could come away from that saying really positive, good to build on for next season.
Without the points deduction we'd be pretty well safe now. Five points ahead with three to play and a superior goal difference. Luton would have to win all three and we'd have to lose all three.
Anyway, we did play well today, but consistency is the frustrating thing about this team. Beat West Ham convincingly and then totally fail to turn up for the start of the Villa game (not helped by playing Niakhate at left back - not an experiment I ever want to see repeated). To be fair, we haven't been awful since losing to Brighton (that was an truly dreadful watch), but we keep letting ourselves down with our shocking defending at set pieces, and seemingly switching off for periods after we score.
Man City had clearly read the memo that tells you how to score from a corner against Forest: lump it in the box and it's almost certain. Don't fuck around with short corners. Watching the Tottenham game with Guru we made this point; they kept trying short corners, but as soon as they lumped one into the box, we scored for them.
Off to the Undead next week. If we can't beat that shower of shite then we deserve fuck all. There are very few games I'd expect to win in this league, but this is one of them; score early and hopefully their confidence will drop. We are second in the league for goals scored in the first 15 minutes; we often start home games well, but we all know away games are a different matter. I really don't want to be going to Burnley needing to win to stay up. Burnley have two difficult matches before then, so hopefully they'll be gone by then, but it all depends on next week for us. A win and a draw would be enough I think.
I have no idea what any of you are smoking or drinking because I watched the Pep interview and he said the opposite. He said the pitch was very wet and he felt like they were lucky that it was as Wood would probably have scored at least twice. He seemed to think the ball was zipping around and that is why we were unlucky not to score. He was very complimentary about us and said that they felt like they really had been in a hard match and were lucky to come away with the victory. Also they were aware that Neco was covering the near post and when he was off they sent a message to Kev to sling the ball into the near post. That I think is the difference between good coaching and world class coaching. Being switched on always. Nuno was slow with his reaction, Pep had a plan.
The Everton performance wasn’t even that bad. Some people need to look at the wider game. Dyche knows forest better than any other manager out there and set his team up accordingly. He’s very good at stopping teams and we still should have scored two (Wood and MGW) and had three penalties.
As for yesterday we were very good, Unfortunately Wood had a mare (hasn’t recovered from hitting the post v Spurs) but Man Cith are that good you’d think they’ve had reacted to being a goal or two down anyway.
Interested to know from those watching on TV or listening to the radio… could you make out the boos before kick off for the EPL and also the anti EPL and Gary Neville chants? Was the crowd reaction discussed? Or did they just turn the sound down and ignore it all?
