I'm off to Thurso next Friday. Is there anything to do in Thurso?

Thurso feels to me like a kind of Scotchland Worksop, in that you see it on all the motorway signposts and maps and shit, but in reality it's just a main road to somewhere else with a B&Q Distribution Centre, Chef & Brewer / Wacky Warehouse and a fair to medium sized Sainsbury's.

That said, I've never been so it's probably some sort of massive metropolitan hub of commerce and culture.

It would be a very poor spot for a B&Q distribution centre. Hopefully you don't work in logistics.

I stayed there on a cycle between Jog to LE. Didn't leave the hotel all night.

    Hope that helps

A group of us arranged it ourselves. It was a lot of admin but really glad I did it.

Couldn't find a travel thread on here with a quick search.

Thinking of going to Aus summer 2025 to watch some rugby (Lions tour) and travel round.

I've only ever been to Sydney, any recommendations for what to do.

We will definitely be in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney as that's where the three tests are.

Agent has put in time in Cairns. Uluru on list too and suggested Kangaroo Island (Adelaide).

Tasmania and Perth/west coast worth some time?

If it's your thing, check out Wine Country in the Hunter Valley - about an hour and a half north of Sydney. I'm biased, but I think Newcastle is great. Plenty of great beaches.

Melbourne is the best city of the three cities you've mentioned. Plenty of stuff to do down there, easy to get around.

Queensland has great weather, but is full of Queenslanders.

Adelaide is nice but boring. It does have the Barossa though.

I don't like Sydney and avoid it like the plague. It's the closest Australia has to Gotham City.

If you're going to Uluru, make sure you stay at one of the hotels on site. You've got good access to the national park - check out Kata Tjuta as well as Uluru. I'd avoid Alice Springs - they've had some pretty serious problems with alcohol and youth crime there recently. Darwin is a good choice, although it gets humid. Gateway to Kakadu.

Never been to Tassie, but have heard good things. You can see the Southern Lights from parts of Tasmania.

Perth is ok and the sunset at Cottesloe is glorious. Quokkas at Rottnest. Surfing at Margaret River.

Envious. We went a few years back.

If Bruce Wayne lives anywhere, it's going to be Australia.

In fact (to labour the joke but shoehorn in some Aussie lexicon) he's probably rooting a Shelia right now. Fair dinkum.

Nah. If he were an Aussie, he has to have the names Mitchell & Shane in there somewhere - it’s a law, I think.

    Bruce Shane Mitch, mate

This was the nearest thing I could find to a travel thread, so hope OK to hijack.

We're taking Little Miss BW to Paris in June for a couple of days of sightseeing and a surprise gig. I last went there in 2009 to get engaged and certainly don't intend to spend here what I did then on hotel. I'm after a cheap and cheerful place to dump suitcases and sleep as we'll be out most of the time - a French equivalent of Premier Inn or something is fine.

Anyone got any recommendations in Paris of this kind of accommodation?
